Hello and welcome to the Heart of England region. After a career in fashion manufacturing I qualified as a Blue Badge Tour Guide in 2001. Since then I have specialised in providing personalised, private tours of Birmingham and surrounding region. I love to share my enthusiasm with visitors from UK and abroad. As a 'born and bred Brummie', I have seen many changes to Birmingham over the last 25 years; from a city with a reputation for heavy industry Birmingham has become a highly regarded centre of excellence in all areas of business and culture. A wide variety of restaurants, great shopping, museums and galleries plus numerous local attractions make Birmingham a popular tourist destination with leisure and business visitors alike. Just a forty minute drive from Birmingham city centre are the famous 'Shakespeare Country' towns of Stratford upon Avon and Warwick with the Cotswold hills beyond. Whatever your reason for visiting and however much or little time you have to spare, I would be delighted to tailor a walking and/or driving tour that will help you discover the hidden. . . Heart of England. Hope to see you soon. The delightful and vibrant riverside town of Stratford upon Avon is where we begin our tour to explore the birthplace of the most famous playwright in the world - William Shakespeare. Born into a local, middle class family in 1564. Surviving a terrible plague that was rife in the town that year, he grew up during the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1st. Dangerous times full of intrigue & religious intolerance, which he would later weave into his plays. The afternoon is spent at the most complete medieval castle in England. Situated above the the banks of the River Avon this most magnificent castle was the ancestral home of the Earls of Warwick one of whom was named the 'Kingmaker'. Here you can visit the dungeon before climbing the spiral stairs of the highest towers to stand on the battlements from where you can enjoy views of the surrounding countryside. With so many exciting attractions, beautiful gardens and fascinating stories from history, this is a visit to satisfy the whole family.
Our walking tour of Stratford follows in the footsteps of William Shakespeare with the opportunity to visit the house where he was born. From the birthplace we take take a gentle stroll beside the river and through the streets that were familiar to William Shakespeare. Along the way we see where he went to school, the site of the house that he retired to on his return from London - and his final resting place in the Parish Church. A short drive away we can visit one of the Tudor properties associated with William and his family including a visit to Anne Hathaway's cottage where he courted his future wife and to Mary Arden's Farm where his mother grew up. Lunch can be on 'on the hoof' or at my favourite traditional tea room in the medieval town of Warwick. The afternoon is spent exploring the most complete medieval castle in England - the splendid - Warwick Castle.
