As a Blue Badge Guide and an accredited member of the Institute of Tourist Guiding I have the expertise and knowledge to give you an informative and memorable introduction to this unique and special region known as Wessex. Being passionate about the English landscape and its history, both ancient and modern, I am fortunate to live in the beautiful county of Dorset as well as having a house in the magnificent medieval city of Salisbury. This region has so much to offer from the Unesco World Heritage Neolithic sites of Stonehenge and Avebury, Iron Age Hill Forts, Roman villas, Saxon towns, Norman churches and castles. The medieval cathedral city of Salisbury, Tudor halls, Georgian estates and Victorian mansions, not to forget the landscape itself. From the Unesco Jurassic Coast, through Wessex where Thomas Hardy was inspired to write his enduring novels, the Royal hunting reserve of Cranborne Chase and the rolling plains of Wiltshire. My aim is to share my enthusiasm and to give insights into the iconic buildings, places and events with which this region is so richly populated and which played such a major part in English History. . Blue Badge Tourist Guide for the South West of England - the highest professional tourist guide qualification. Member of the Institute of Tourist Guiding Member of the British Guild of Tourist Guides Salisbury City Guide Masters Degree in First World War Studies (2014) I am not a driver guide but I can either accompany you in your own vehicle or I can arrange an Executive Mini Bus and driver.

Your Salisbury tour itinerary

The tour starts at Old Sarum, the Iron Age hill fort just outside Salisbury where the first Cathedral was built. We then make our way to the City & the impressive market place which dates back to 1227 & is dominated by the 18th-century Guildhall from which the City was governed and justice administered. Proceeding alongside the River Avon we will visit St Thomas's Church and the incomparable doom painting. A short walk via the cinema, home of John Halle's house, brings us to the fortified Gate, the entrance to the cloistered world of the elegant Cathedral Close. Having viewed from the Close, the sublime symmetry of the Early English Gothic Cathedral and spire we will go inside via the largest cloisters in the country. There, the impact of the stunning simplicity of this beautiful building can be fully appreciated. Apart from its many treasures, we will see how the weight of the spire has bent the stone pillars supporting it! Finally, we will visit the 14th-century Chapter House and home to the Magna Carta
