My name is Clare. I am a private tour guide offering private tours in and around Montreux, the pearl of the Swiss Riviera, for over 20 years. There is so much history and culture in Switzerland to learn about, numerous places to visit, many fun activities to enjoy and delicious local specialities to taste. I'm very fortunate to live in Switzerland - the most beautiful country in the world with fabulous wines, cheeses and chocolate amongst other wonderful produce. The stunning views of the lakes and mountains will literally take your breath away! I grew up in England and moved here to Switzerland in 1984 to continue my career in skiing. I started tour guiding for a travel company in Montreux in 1987 and today, not only teach skiing in the winter, being a fully qualified Swiss Ski Instructor with Brevet Federal, but am an experienced tour guide, licensed member of ASGT, the Swiss Association of Tour Guides, guiding mainly private tours from April to December. I also give Swiss wine tastings and teach French and English during the year. In my spare time I enjoy most sports, particularly skiing, snow-boarding, mountain-biking, tennis, wake-boarding, wind-surfing, trampolining as well as cooking, travelling and reading. I adore meeting people and sharing my local knowledge and love of Switzerland with them in an interesting and informative way - it's always a pleasure to show and explain our country to visitors, and I want all of of my guests to have a fabulous time in Montreux and to share their unforgettable holiday memories with their friends and family on their return home. Apart from the tours I already offer, I will be more than happy to personalise your tour depending on your interests and desires, so please do not hesitate to ask me for your tailor-made tour! Maybe you would like to visit Chamonix, Zermatt, Interlaken or Bern during your stay? Take a private tour to learn all about the history and culture of the charming town of Montreux, the Swiss Riviera, famous for its beautiful flora, due to the benefits of the special micro-climate we enjoy. We will stroll along the lake shores where the summer Jazz Festival takes place, see the Freddie Mercury statue and the majestic 13th century Chillon Castle, (the most visited monument in the whole of Switzerland and inspiration to numerous poets, novelists and artists over the past 300 years), on our way up to the old town to appreciate stunning views over the lake and pass by the oldest house in Montreux, dating back to the 16th century.
Very interesting tour of Montreux! We learned so much about the history and culture and would recommend Clare as a tour guide!
We had a fantastic afternoon with Clare! She was knowledgeable, well-spoken and friendly, and flexible according to what you want to see.
Clare is delightful! She has not only great knowledge about her area, but has such positive enthusiasm about her adopted country, Switzerland. We had an excellent tour and would rate her very highly.
We absolutely LOVED Clare. She was one of the best guides we have had on our many travels around the world. She toured us around Montreux for 4 hours one day and then spent another day taking us to Gruyere, a wine tasting, the charming town of Vevery, and the Cailler chocolate factory. She planned the entire day for us and did an amazing job. You must contact Clare if you go to Switzerland. She is the best. We will definitely contact her again when we travel back to Switzerland.
Delightful tour! Knowledgable, pleasant, a great overview of Montreux!
Following the shores of the Léman lake (the true name for Lake Geneva) we will walk along the beautiful lakeside promenade until the casino before walking (or taking the bus) up to visit the old town, situated above the lake. We will see some of our majestic "Belle Epoque" hotels, the market place, the Freddie Mercury statue and the Queen museum during our tour. If you are keen walkers we can even go up to the old Church of St Vincent from where we can admire stunning views of the lake, mountains and Chillon castle as well as the French border across the lake.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
The city tour is a walking tour, however we can take the local bus up to the old town if preferred or if a very hot day.
