Gruyère, the medival cheese capital of Switzerland

Get to know about Swiss Gruyère cheese and see that same pastoral Switzerland! Gruyères has an amazing concentration of medieval architecture. With that, there is no feeling of a lifeless museum, on the contrary, you’ll find yourself in a real ancient Switzerland with it’s ringing cow bells, green meadows and.. the smell of aromatic cheese around! What to expect: • Gruyère cheese factory visit. Here you will get to know how the famous Gruyère cheese is producing and will taste 3 pieces of different varieties of local cheese • Nice walk through the medieval town and around the 13th century Gruyere Castle with charming views • Giger's Bar, designed by the famous designer Hans Giger, the creator of the images for the “Aliens”. • Lunch (optional). For a total immersion in this Swiss cheese paradise, I'll book a table in one of the local restaurants to let you try the famous fondue. *Note: the tour includes walking uphill/light hiking, it is recommended for guests in good physical condition

I meet you at your hotel in Lausanne and we'll travel together to Gruyère by public transport. It takes around 1h.20 min by train from Lausanne train station to get there. Once arrived we'll head to the Cheese Factory to enjoy an approximately 45 min - 1 hour visit to get to know the secrets of Gruyere cheese making process and to taste 3 different types of this authentic Swiss product. Please note, the cheese making demonstration is only available up until 12:00. After the visit we'll continue by a 2,5-3 h. walk around the Gruyere village and Gruyere castle visit. It would be a good idea to allocate some time on our way for a cup of coffee in the super atmospheric Gigers' Bar). If you feel like staying for a lunch/dinner before heading back, you are more than welcomed to). On the way back I will accompany you to your hotel/accomodation in Lausanne city. If you prefer traveling by private transport, I will help you to arrange it too.
