Hola! My name is Debora and I am very excited to show you around in beautiful Asturias! I am from the Netherlands, but married to a Spanish guy. From the moment that he introduced me to his home region Asturias a few years ago I fell in love with the landscape, friendly people and great food, and I am looking forward to share it with you! Since I was a young girl I have been passionate about nature and travelling. Next to my studies in Forestry and Nature Conservation and International Land and Water Management, I have therefore been volunteering as a guide for several Dutch and international organizations, where I primarily focused on showing children and teenagers the beauty of nature. I have visited most European countries as well as spent time in Indonesia, Zambia, Mexico and the USA. These trips allowed me to get to know other cultures and get acquainted with amazing local habits and customs. The inviting and friendly attitude of most of the people that I met in these countries, encourage me to do the same for people wanting to get to know Asturias! I live in Oviedo in the north of Spain since the beginning of 2018. Right from the start, I have explored not only this city but also nearby cities such as Gijon and Aviles, as well as the surrounding countryside. Overview of your Oviedo tour
Did your (great)grandparents come from Asturias and migrated to 'the Americas'? And are you curious to learn more about their homeland? This tour offers you the opportunity to explore the land of your ancestors! When starting as a tourism guide in Asturias, I met quite a few people from oversees with Asturian roots. This piqued my interest in the history of the many emigrants from Asturias and I started to study and visit places of the Asturian emigration. I would love to share this knowledge with you. Visiting the hometowns, schools and former workplaces of your ancestors can be a powerful and emotional experience. I feel privileged that I can contribute and be part of such an experience. As one of my customers (and now friend!) said: "Thanks again for the amazing day in Asturias. You made the experience a lifelong memory for us"!
Your Oviedo tour itinerary
- Pick up at your hotel/ airport/ cruise port in Oviedo/Gijon/ Aviles/. . . (flexible) - Drive along the Asturian coast following the 'Indianos Trail' - Visit and walk through Colombres where we will visit the Indiano Archive and Emigration Museum - Drop off at hotel/airport/ cruise port (flexible) Since this tour can be fully customized, I am very happy to change the itinerary to visit specific towns, villages or mines with which you have a special (family) connection. Also, we can include some cultural and/ or gastronomic elements to the tour (e. g. visiting a mine or cider museum) to give you a real feeling of what Asturias is like. I can also design a multiple day tour for you. *Note: that the dates displayed are based on the opening hours of the Emigration Museum. When we do not visit the museum, I am available for a customized tour as well. Please send me an inquiry with your wishes and I design the tour for you!
