Hola! My name is Debora and I am very excited to show you around in beautiful Asturias! I am from the Netherlands, but married to a Spanish guy. From the moment that he introduced me to his home region Asturias a few years ago I fell in love with the landscape, friendly people and great food, and I am looking forward to share it with you! Since I was a young girl I have been passionate about nature and travelling. Next to my studies in Forestry and Nature Conservation and International Land and Water Management, I have therefore been volunteering as a guide for several Dutch and international organizations, where I primarily focused on showing children and teenagers the beauty of nature. I have visited most European countries as well as spent time in Indonesia, Zambia, Mexico and the USA. These trips allowed me to get to know other cultures and get acquainted with amazing local habits and customs. The inviting and friendly attitude of most of the people that I met in these countries, encourage me to do the same for people wanting to get to know Asturias! I live in Oviedo in the north of Spain since the beginning of 2018. Right from the start, I have explored not only this city but also nearby cities such as Gijon and Aviles, as well as the surrounding countryside. Overview of your Oviedo tour
Have you heard about the Camino de Santiago and even considered walking one of its iternaries (yes, there are multiple routes!)? But do you not have the possibility to take a few weeks off, or are you doubting whether you are able to hike 20-30 km for multiple days in a row? This tour offers you the possibility to experience the 'Camino Primitivo' in one day! Walking the Camino is a great way to intensively experience the Asturian countryside and meet people from all over the world. That's exactly why I enjoy walking parts of the Camino in Asturias and take people along with me! Given their feedback ("most pleasant hours I spent in Spain"; "once in a lifetime experience") show that people really love this tour. The whole route is around 12 km in length, requiring a good physical condition as well as hiking experience and proper clothing and shoes.
Your Oviedo tour itinerary
- Start at the Cathedral of Oviedo for an explanation of its history and its role in the Camino de Santiago - Walk through Oviedo city Centre and its outskirts (4k) - Hike along Mount Naranco into the Asturian countryside (8k), including regular stops for explanation and refreshments - End in the village of Escamplero, where we'll enjoy a delicious Fabada Asturiana, a typical Asturian dish - Heading back to Oviedo by private vehicle I am happy to customize this tour for you.
