My name is May Jony, I was born in the heart of the peruvian Amazon, a small river called NAPO, which is born in ECUADOR country and flows into the AMAZON river in Peru. I am the oldest of 6 brothers and 4 sisters and I left my village when I was 12 years old after finishing my primary and go to the high school in IQUITOS city but my family still live in my hometown which I am trying to help a little while I work as a tour guide. I had the chance to learn English in the school and now I am working as a jungle guide for over than 10 years. I offer Eco cultural, educative and full adventure tours with customized services and flexible programs especially designed for nature lovers, photographers, researchers, fishers, bird watchers, family and students. My over 10 years of experience and my deep love of the jungle and its inhabitants; the plants, the wildlife and the locals place me in the perfect position to introduce you to the AMAZON. I am committed in the conservation of the Amazon rain forest with social responsibility with the villages and people who help me to do it. I also organize workshops in schools to speech about the climate change (cause and consequences), garbage management (plastic recycle) because I consider to the education the best way to help to protect the Amazon nature. Overview of your Iquitos tour
This tour is especially designed for travellers with little time but want to know more about the city (Iquitos) and its surroundings. Walking next to me, you will have the great opportunity to understand more about the culture, gastronomy, festivities, people and day by day activities of one of the largest city of the world that has no road connection, you just arrive here by plane from Lima, Pucallpa or Tarapoto or by boat from Colombia, Brasil and Ecuador. Why? I was born and raised in this area, which place me in a good possition to introduce you this beautiful tropical city, we will enjoy this tour together 'cause everyday is a different experience even for us.
Your Iquitos tour itinerary
- First, pick up from the hotel and visit the downtown by foot while your tour guide show and explain to you about the historic buildings that date back from the rubber fever. - Then we visit a historical boat museum (Ayapua) that was used during the rubber boom where you will find old articles and information about navigation of that time, items used by rubber barons and tribes. - After that, we visit one of the largest markets and neighborhoods of the Peruvian Amazon, see the exotic products that arrive every day from the jungle including traditional medicinal plants. - Also, visit the flooded neighborhood (only January - May) and watch interesting houses built on floating rafts. (optional) - Ending the tour, we will visit the MANATEE rescue center, where we will find a group of volunteers trying to save the Manatees (sea caw) from extinction but also other rescued species before being released in the jungle.
