Hello and welcome to Kyoto! My name is Mike, and I would love to share the beauty of Japan with you — not only as a tour guide, but also as a storyteller and writer. Kyoto is famous for its temples, shrines, gardens, and World Heritage Sites. But the true charm of Kyoto lies in its rich diversity. Of course, we can visit the famous places loved by visitors from around the world. Yet just a few steps away from the crowded tourist spots, there are often quiet hidden temples, peaceful gardens, and small streets where the spirit of old Kyoto still lives softly. I always hope my guests can experience both sides of Kyoto — the well-known beauty and the secret beauty. Before becoming a guide, I worked as a private school teacher for more than 30 years. During that time, I studied the cultural differences between East and West, including history, religion, art, architecture, gardens, and ways of thinking. Today, I continue this work not only as a guide, but also as a writer exploring the invisible connections between Japanese and Western culture. My tours are not simply “information tours.” I prefer to guide through storytelling. Why are Japanese gardens so quiet and peaceful? Why do Zen temples use empty space so beautifully? Why does Kyoto architecture feel so gentle and natural compared with many Western buildings? Through stories, humor, history, and everyday cultural details, I hope to make Kyoto feel alive and personal for my guests. Whether you are deeply interested in culture, photography, architecture, spirituality, or simply wish to enjoy Kyoto at a slower and more meaningful pace, I would be very happy to explore this beautiful city together with you.

Nara was the first capital of Japan until 800. Nara, a place of profound significance for the Japanese, is often referred to as the 'Japanese soul town ', the very birthplace of Shinto and the essence of Japanese identity. Here are some examples of Nara attractions. Nara-machi is located downtown in Nara. This is a preserved traditional townscape with restaurants, handcraft shops, temples & shrines, a sake tasting shop, museums and culture centres. I recommend visiting Nara-machi before going to Nara Park to enjoy the various faces of this city. Nara Park has three world heritage sites and several other attractions, including Ukimido. Todaiji Great Buddha Hall, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, and Ukimido are indispensable to visit. Of course, you cannot talk of Nara Park without referring to its deer. They politely bow before eating. Please return your bow to them. If you still have some time, it will be delightful to visit Horyuji, Japan's first world heritage site, the oldest wooden building in the world.
