Jewish and general historical cultural tour in Western Sicily

We will visit 2 main places like Trapani and Erice, and especially focusing our attention on the Jewish historical and cultural aftermath on Western Sicily. According to reliable sources, Trapani was the most Jewish town in Sicily, meaning in percentage of the population until 1492 and 1493 (up to 20%). Little remains of the architecture, the synagogue of Trapani itself disappeared in the 16th century to make room for an imposing palace still present today: the Ciambra palace. However, there is much to tell even in the streets of the old Giudecca ghetto of what was dramatically interrupted due to the expulsion of the Jews from Sicily officially from 12 January 1,493. Yet, unofficially, the Sicilian Jewish population managed to recycle itself in a new Catholic guise. With the Jewish tour we want to give the right space in the history of Sicily that the Jews had demonstrating intelligence, responsibility, administrative and commercial acumen.

Trapani: historical centre with main palaces, churches like Purgatorio (with Misteri) or Saint Peter (with one of the greatest musical organ in the world), fish market, seaside areas like Tramontana walkside, Ligny tower area, some bakeries and other food and drink places for a street food experience. Itinerary: historical centre with main palaces and churches, gardens, castles, Spanish district, main pastries shops for typical sweets and dessert wines, ceramic and other local handicraft shops. We can also stop for a gastronomy experience of the characteristic sweets and pastries of Erice To go from Trapani to Erice, and from Erice to Trapani, we will drive in two different roads to best experience the two landscapes, one on Trapani, Saltmines and Aegadian Islands, the second one on Mount Cofano with the northern western coast of Sicily.
