These are the highlights of the region, but what about discovering the places off the beaten tracks? At a short distance from Milan, the Borromeo's Islands are the highlight of a stay at Lago Maggiore. I've been guiding on these islands for more than 20 years but still I enjoy passing from one room to another of the marvellous palaces and breathing the unbelievable atmosphere in the gardens in all seasons as if it were the first day! Isola Bella will surprise you with its sumptuous baroque palace and its terraced Italian-style gardens. On Isola Madre, the atmosphere is more authentic, with a luxuriant English-style botanical garden; in the villa, you will have fun admiring a collection of marionettes and little theatres. Isola Pescatori is the more lively, with its many little shops and cafés, but if we get there in the late afternoon, we can still experience the life of an ancient village, with the coloured fishermen's houses protecting their baroque little church.
We had a really wonderful day with Daniela! She arranged our day very efficiently so that we could avoid most of the crowds, and she organized a private boat for us so that we maximized our time and had the chance to see other sights around the lake besides the three main islands. Daniela is extremely knowledgable - we learned a lot! - and she's a fun person to spend time with. Grazie, Daniela!
Daniela is a fantastic guide and a warm, friendly, thoughtful person. Her breadth of knowledge about the area’s history, plants, local culture, etc. greatly enhanced our visits. She is also extremely organized, and our communication was excellent. She was totally accommodating to our pace. Touring this area with Daniela as our guide made our trip easy and spectacular.
This has to be one of our all time favorite tours! Daniela is an amazing guide. She is so knowledgable about the islands and the area. She met us at our hotel and even helped me find transportation from Milan to Stresa prior to our trip. I would highly recommend, so worth the money.

Daniela was a terrific guide for our group of 6 women friends. Lake Maggiore is a beautiful place the islands in the lake are extraordinary. We had a private boat for our day with Daniela and visited 3 islands. Our favorite was Isla Pecsatorie which is tiny but so charming. Daniela's knowledge of the islands, their history, culture and architecture made this such a memorable day.
Both ferries of the public service and private motorboats leave from Stresa or Baveno. • We'll spend about 1 hr and a half on Isola Madre, visiting a luxuriant English-style botanical garden and the villa in the middle of it. • On tiny Isola Pescatori, we'll visit the church and the village and we'll allow ourselves some free time for lunch and shopping. • Later we'll spend about 2 hrs on Isola Bella, visiting the wealthy baroque palace and its terraced gardens. Notes: - By booking this tour, you will only pay for my guiding, boat transportation is not included. This allows you to decide to use a private boat or the regular ferry. - The order of the visits may vary, according to weather conditions. - I can create a customized tour for you in case of special requests or you're more than 4 people.
