MAURA B. Foligno, Umbria, Italy "Wherever you go, go with all your heart". (Confucius) I was born and raised in Umbria and, in my twenties, like so many young people, I packed my bag and traveled the world. I spent time in Paris, Istanbul, Madrid - in fact all the major European capitals and also spent several months travelling throughout the USA. On my return I began teaching Italian at the Università degli Stranieri di Perugia, then quickly realized that I wanted to share not just my language but also my passion for my heritage that is the natural beauty and the art of my land. I studied Art History and gained my Umbria Tour Guide's License 24 years ago and have never looked back. Umbria is a land of treasures! It is home to some of the most incredible pieces of artwork in the world. At the end of a working day I always feel a sense of gratitude and pride for the unforgettable experiences which I have been able to share with my guests… These might include a day of walking the cobbled streets of magnificent hamlets such as Spello or the feeling of being almost overwhelmed by the famous and revolutionary frescoes painted by Giotto in the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi; we might have finished the day by savoring a glass of Sagrantino together while admiring the breathtaking view of the gentle countryside. The choice of authentic cultural experiences which we can share is almost limitless. I look forward to giving you a unique gift from my Umbria. It's a gift which cannot be lost and I hope will continue to give you the sense of an invisible link back here to my home forever. Overview of your Perugia tour

Perugia is a city of deep culture. Pietro Vannucci, nicknamed the Perugino, had his workshop here and was considered by his contemporaries to be one of the greatest painters of Renaissance. The irreligious and avaricious artist gave the 11-year-old Raphael his first break into the art world. We can hardly imagine the impression that Perugino's magnificent and very expensive paintings in the Nobile Collegio del Cambio must have made on the locals in 1500! We will discover his incredible frescoes which decorate Perugia's Medieval bank, the "most beautiful bank in the world" and you will sense the breath-taking beauty of his invaluable work. The Palazzo dei Priori, today's Town Hall, houses the National Gallery of Umbria. Our tour will focus on Medieval and Renaissance masterpieces and will be a chance to immerse yourself in those times and to get to know all the fascinating details about famous painters, such as Duccio, Fra Angelico , Benozzo Gozzoli, Piero della Francesca, Perugino, Raphael and Pinturicchio.

Maura is a great guide and she knows her art history! The Galleria Nazionale dell' Umbria is a wonderful museum and gallery (Pinturicchio and Perugino among others!) along with the Collegio del Cambio next door to it (think medieval money exchange graced by Perugino's frescoes). Gazing at all the amazing master pieces is one thing, but to have an experienced art historian like Maura bring the art and artists to life enriches your experience exponentially. Thank you again, Maura! Paula & David

Perugia is a lesser known gem, and Maura's tour was fascinating and memorable. Her Umbrian roots brought our Perugia visit to life. From Etruscan origins through medieval development and finally Papal domination, the scope of Perugian history is vast and well worth exploring. Also, you must see Perugino's fresco cycle in Perugia's Sala dell'Udienza right off the town square. With a friendly and engaging manner, Maura showed us so much and yet we wished we had allowed for more time. Highly recommend!

Maura took us (a group of 15 friends) into Perugia. She explains the complex history of the city in a way it really comes alive!! Her passionate and personal way of telling stories kept all 15 of us engaged throughout the tour. She answers every question with beautiful stories and detailed facts. Her English ánd French is fluent, so we didn't miss a thing. She also helped us navigate to the right shops and restaurants in Perugia. She really is the best guide to visit Perugia (and the rest of Umbrië!)
