Gubbio, the city known all over the world for its "Corsa dei Ceri", an exciting race that has been celebrated for the last 900 years to honor the Patron Saint Ubaldo, is a town where time seems to have stopped back in the Middle Ages. Gubbio's fertile valley and sweeping hills have attracted many different civilizations through the centuries. Echoes of past occupiers, from the ancient Umbrians to the Romans can be found throughout the city. Wandering its streets and leafy plazas will reveal layers of thousand-year old history, impressed in the historical buildings that still retain their original aspect. Our walk follows the steep back streets up to the main Piazza, a man made civil hanging square, that hosts the spectacular Palazzo dei Consoli, similar to a medieval skyscraper, one of the most daring constructions of the Middle Ages.
