Overview of your Perugia tour
Gubbio, the city known all over the world for its "Corsa dei Ceri", an exciting race that has been celebrated for the last 900 years to honor the Patron Saint Ubaldo, is a town where time seems to have stopped back in the Middle Ages. Gubbio's fertile valley and sweeping hills have attracted many different civilizations through the centuries. Echoes of past occupiers, from the ancient Umbrians to the Romans can be found throughout the city. Wandering its streets and leafy plazas will reveal layers of thousand-year old history, impressed in the historical buildings that still retain their original aspect. Our walk follows the steep back streets up to the main Piazza, a man made civil hanging square, that hosts the spectacular Palazzo dei Consoli, similar to a medieval skyscraper, one of the most daring constructions of the Middle Ages. Two city elevators can facilitate our visit going from one city level to another. I am more than happy to customize this tour according to your needs and wishes !
Your Perugia tour itinerary
Our tour will start from Perugia (pick up from agreed location): - we will drive to Gubbio by car with private driver; - will start our visit from the church of St. Francis; - continue to the neighborhood of St. Martino with its maze of back streets and hidden piazzas, passing by the famous "Fontana dei Matti", (the crazy fountain); - The Church of St. John the Baptist with its lovely square; - we will walk up to the Piazza Grande to visit Palazzo Dei Consoli; - visit of the Cathedral. Suggested option: a ride with cable funicular (or by car) up to the top of Mount Ingino to visit the Basilica of St. Ubaldo and enjoy the amazing view of the mountains and valley; - drive back to Perugia and drop off in agreed location;
