Hi, my name is Alessandro and I'm a passionate Sicilian archaeologist and tour guide. I hold a BA in Preservation of Cultural Herigate, with a specific focus on classical archaeology, completed by a further Postgraduate qualification in Sicily and Magna Graecia Archeology. My main research interest is on Magna Graecia and Sicily Archaeology, about which I published different scientific papers. I was also assistant to the Chair of Greek and Roman Archaeology at the BA Sciences of Tourism of the "Università degli Studi della Calabria". I have worked as an excavation supervisor in Abruzzo, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily. I am a Licensed Guide for Sicily since 2014. What I love most about my job is sharing my passion for the land with others and spreading knowledge of the territory and culture of Sicily as I know her. I am always delighted to guide my visitors into an unconventional world of archaeology, food, wine and traditions. According to me, a place must not only be visited, but felt and lived in all of its multifaceted features. This is the concept I have of any excursion. We must not be tourists, we have to be part of the society in which we stay, blending our customs with their way to live. I think that this belief, in combination with my expertise acquired through extensive and continuing academic research and high-grade studies, makes me a totally different kind of tour guide. According to me "Sicily must be experienced, leisurely and in depth". This is the philosophy through which I live on my island. BA in Classical Archaeology Postgraduate Diploma in Classical Archaeology Long experience of excavations in Sicily and South Italy Experience as assistant to the Chair of Greek and Roman Archaeology at the University Publications related to the field of Roman and Greek Archaeology Licensed Tour Guide for Sicily

The city of Modica, listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002, lies along a series of canyons that cut the white Hyblaean limestone tableland. Its characteristic medieval urban system, which had been considerably changed by the 1693 earthquake, was then shaped according to the Late Baroque architecture. Besides being the capital of one of the most important feudal states in Southern Italy, the County of Modica, it also treasured the secrets of an old Aztec recipe, namely chocolate that was imported by Spanish conquistadores in the 16th century. It will be my pleasure to guide you up and down the maze of narrow alleys and stairways of this Unesco site, and share with you my knowledge and passion for its historic legacy. Through this cultural hike, you will appreciate the unique cityscape and heritage of Modica, and discover the special routine and fantastic lives of its people.
- We will start from the Belvedere di San Benedetto where we will get a spectacular bird's eye view of the city. Ambling down through the old quarter known as "Cartellone", which will reveal hidden corners and secrets of the town to us, we will reach the church of Santa Maria di Betlemme. - We will continue our walk by crossing the valley into the heart of the city where we will discover the ancient church of San Nicolò Inferiore carved into the rock. And then up we go again! A new climb will bring us up to the rocky castle to visit the church of San Giorgio with its soaring, tiered facade. - Finally, we will lose ourselves within the quarter of Santa Lucia and end our tour on the top of the main hill, known as Belvedere del Pizzo, where the majestic landscape opens out before us. The hike can be customized depending on your wishes and needs. N. B. The churches of Santa Maria di Betlemme and San Nicolò Inferiore may be closed depending on the season and the opening times set by their management.
