As a professional in the Adventure/Experiential Travel industry for 26 years, I've primarily guided small group tours for active adults - along with designing and organizing tours. From Ireland to Turkey, Italy to the Czech Republic, Morocco to the Highlands of Scotland, and pretty much every corner of Greece, I've been there - often more than once - and have personally escorted more than 2000 guests on one-of-a-kind adventures. The trips I've designed allow for authentic experiences involving rich cultural connections. We generally stay at small, elegant, family-owned hotels, employ expert local guides when necessary, sample traditional cuisines, and engage in active excursions, all within a framework of responsible tourism. Since 1998 when I started working for some of the leading companies in the active travel industry, I began understanding the idiosyncrasy of the North American traveler. My guests were my comrades, my companions, and we shared common goals: ensuring safety, enjoying leisure, gaining experiences, exceeding our limits and achieving a self-actualization that only travel can offer. I don't believe in leading the way, but rather paving the way to a breathtaking view or a memorable experience, allowing the guests to meet (or exceed) their expectations themselves. My hobbies include hiking, cycling, photography, caring for my olive groves and cooking for large groups of friends. Home base is also still one of my favorite destinations, the Southern Peloponnese. 26 years of experience designing and leading walking, cycling, van and yacht tours in Greece for English-speaking guests. Several former client referrals can be provided upon request. Certified in First Aid.

Overview of your Kalamata tour

Explore the Southern Peloponnese with the help and guidance of an experienced local tour designer and leader. The tour is designed to allow you to visit three historically significant castle towns of the southern Peloponnese, while allowing enough leisure time for exploring the towns on foot, enjoying lunch, a coffee stop and, weather and time permitting, even a stop for a swim. You will not only enjoy the comfort of being driven from place to place by an experienced driver/guide, but you will also have the pleasure of listening to valuable presentations about the history, architecture, religion, flora and fauna, culture and customs, culinary traditions, politics and modern day life in Greece and the Southern Peloponnese. You will have the choice of which sites you prefer visiting or spending more time in. Your guide will give you valuable information in advance for those sites you decide to visit, he will drop you off at the most convenient location and then meet you to guide you around the towns.

Your Kalamata tour itinerary

You will head west this morning along a scenic coastal route that offers fantastic views of Mount Taygetos and the bay of Messinia and pass several traditional villages that compete for your attention. Your first destination is Koroni, home to one of the last inhabitable castles in Greece. Soak up the atmosphere, and stroll through the castle, learn about the town’s history and enjoy some great views. You will then drive to Methoni, another picturesque castle town of the Peloponnese, The castle was built in 1209 A.D. by the Venetians and is truly a magnificent site! After spending enough time exploring the ruins, you will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch in one of your guide's favorite family tavernas anywhere in Greece. Your last stop, Pilos, is known for the famous naval battle of Navarino in 1827. You'll explore Pylos on foot before enjoying a cup of Greek coffee and a traditional sweet in Pylos’ scenic square, where you will listen to commentary about the town's past and present.
