Hello dear guests, Welcome to my wonderful home town of Trier. My name is Andrea and I am your English- speaking tour guide for Trier, Luxembourg and the Moselle and Saar river region. I am very happy to show you around and let you experience the most impressive monuments in this region , its wonderful landscape, our incredible history dating back to the Roman times, people's hospitality and of course - our world famous wine :-) I was born and raised in Trier. My passion for being a tour guide initially started out as a hobby more than ten years ago. While travelling the world myself, my interest in being a guide in my home was formed. Seeing people in the whole world passionate about inviting tourists to get to know their home countries, their history and culture inspired me to fulfill this profession as well. For several years, I am now a full-time tour guide guiding guests from all over the world. I look forward to meeting you as well. Trier- or Augusta Treverorum - was founded 17 BC by the Emperor Augustus and was called the 'Roma Secunda', the second Rome. We start at the Porta Nigra, our city's most famous landmark - it is the last existing city gate north of the alps. Then, we discover to the House of Three Kings, the center of many sagas and stories from the Middle Age in Trier and the 'Judengasse', which was the Jewish quarter until the 15th century. Discover the main market established in the 10th century, which is still at the center of the city's life until today. On the market square, we will see the fountain of St. Peter as well as the 'Steipe', an impressive representative building. We will also discover the Trier Cathedral and the Church of our Lady. The second half of our tour will revolve around the Emperor's audience hall, the Electoral Palace and the magnificent gardens next to it. We end with entering the ancient Empiral Baths as well as the Amphitheater, the place where once the Gladiators fought.
Even though Andrea was a bit under the weather she gave us a great tour of Trier. We had visited the city many years ago but on our own and Andrea answered so many questions we had with her very detailed tour. Thank you and hope your cold wasn’t too bad.
Andrea was a fabulous tour guide who got us through the most historic sights in Trier quickly, and mostly avoided the crowds. We were very impressed with her knowledge of the Roman history and can highly recommend Andrea when in Trier. (She also had great restaurant recommendations!)
Andrea was so much fun to spend time with. Her knowledge of Trier is boundless - we learned so much from her. Most importantly, she made it enjoyable. She arrived with water, and planned restroom breaks along the way - that's the sign of an experienced tour guide. We love her!
We will start at your chosen time at the meeting point near Porta Nigra: - Discover the Porta Nigra, the house of Three Kings, the Jewish quarter and the main market square. All within short walking distance from each other, in the very centre of our city. - Next, we continue to the famous Trier Cathedral, an impressive Roman church, which combines several centuries of architectural styles. Right beside the Cathedral, we can admire the Church of our Lady. The two churches and their surroundings form the so-called 'Mini Vatican'. - After a short walk, we discover the Basilica of Constantine - the audience hall for the Roman Emperor. - In close proximity, we find the Rococo Electoral Palace and the Palace gardens. The Imperial Baths are up next, which were also built during the Constanian age. - Short breaks are possible any time during the tour. This itinerary is my suggestion and can be customized
