Hi, I'm Emmanuel. I have been living in a village near Dunkirk for 15 years. I worked as a travel agent for a few years before beginning as a tour guide on a WWI site in Belgium, near Ypres in 2014. Right after that, I was offered the chance to work in Dunkirk, and I couldn't miss this opportunity! I consider myself lucky to live in a place with a rich history like Dunkirk. I have been passionate about the history of WWII since I was a child, and I love guiding people around, telling them about the history of the city, especially about Operation Dynamo. Many visitors had their father or grandfather in Dunkirk in 1940, and I sometimes learn a lot from them. In my opinion, a pleasant tour is more a conversation than giving a monologue, so every tour is different from the previous one. I easily adapt so feel free to ask if you have any wishes regarding the tour you would like to follow, and remember that talking about the war won't stop us from having a good time together. During this tour, you will discover why the beaches of the Dunkirk area could not be the main place to evacuate, why the Little Ships were needed, and how the whole Operation Dynamo was organized. Let's evoke images from these days, crowd and chaos all around, hundreds of thousands of people whose voices are making a deafening noise. Thousands of vehicles, cars scattered around, weapons abandoned. Anxiety that can be felt. Despair and hope. Spite and indifference. I will take you to the beach where this was happening, but also in the port to see the famous East Mole, to the British Memorial and Military Cemetery, and you will see how Dunkirk was rebuilt after being destroyed by the non-stop German bombings. And If the tide is low enough we can go and see a shipwreck from 1940 on the beach, visit the Dunkerque 1940 - Opération Dynamo Museum, or see a group of German bunkers of the Atlantik Wall.
