Hola amigos! Bienvenidos a El Salvador. I'm Alfredo, a triple-licensed tour guide with over 21 years of experience in the field. Salvadoran born, I lived part of my childhood in downtown San Salvador during the first years of the El Salvador Civil War. This made me a witness to some of the most important events in my country's recent history. With a background in Marketing and early professional experience mainly in advertising, I delivered my first tour in 2005. That day, I found my true vocation. Last but not least: PUPUSAS! You have to taste them! They are yummy... and I know my pupusas: my family has run a pupusería (pupusa shop) for over 40 years. Basically, pupusas paid for my education! My Priorities as Your Local Expert SAFETY: I would never take you (or go myself) to a place I consider unsafe. Common sense is the key. FLEXIBILITY: Have you heard of a specific nearby spot? Let's check it out! Want to depart later? ¡No problema! Want to try street food? I know the perfect place! ACCURACY: You have my word that all information delivered is based on facts and reliable sources. If you ask for a food recommendation, I will always suggest the best value-for-money options based on quality, never on commissions. I always know the nearest place to find the tastiest meals or the coldest beer. Credentials & Background I hold 3 valid licenses issued by the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador and the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (the top tourism authorities in the country), alongside multiple certifications, courses, and workshops: National Tour Guide (Guía Nacional) Los Volcanes National Park Specialist (Santa Ana, Cerro Verde, and Izalco) San Salvador Historic Center Site Specialist (Guía de Sitio Centro Histórico) I am also First Aid trained by the Salvadoran Red Cross. I am highly experienced in diverse tour topics and destinations, including cultural heritage (museums and archaeological parks), history, craft beer tasting, and many off-the-beaten-path spots. If you are looking for the great outdoors, I'm your guy! Hiking and trekking are my specialties, whether it's short or long hikes in National Parks, protected areas, or active volcanoes. I am proud to be one of the most experienced hiking and trekking guides in El Salvador. Ethical Tourism Commitment None of my tours support any kind of animal abuse, child labor, or illegal activities. Instead, I strictly endorse and support small family-run businesses, local guides, and entrepreneurs. Additionally, a portion of my earnings goes directly to support animal shelters and a local child-care foundation. 🏅 My Credentials ● Triple-licensed Tour Guide – Official credentials issued by the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador and the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation: - General National Tour Guide - Specialized Guide in the History of San Salvador's Historic Center - Specialized Mountain Guide in Los Volcanes National Park (Santa Ana, Izalco, and Cerro Verde) ● Operating under the SICCS Red Distinction – The highest level of the Central American Integrated System for Tourism Quality and Sustainability. ● Certificate in Sustainable Destination Management – UN Tourism Online Academy & Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU). ● Completed Training in the Prevention of Human Trafficking in Travel and Tourism – Secretariat General of the Central American Integration System (SG-SICA / SITCA), 2024. ● Family Friendly El Salvador Certified Tour Guide – Specialized in Family Tourism (equipped to accommodate family needs, including strollers and car seats). ● International Tour Guide Certification – Cruise Tourism & Shore Excursion Excellence by Aquila's Center for Cruise Excellence, Canada. Tour Guide Training Course Certification – Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado & Ministry of Tourism. ● Updated First Aid, CPR, and Emergency Response Training – Certified by the Salvadoran Red Cross (June 2026) and FOSALUD. ● Tourist Safety Workshop – Politur (Policía de Turismo de El Salvador). ● Good Practices for Sustainable Tourism Workshop – Salvanatura and Smart Voyager. ● Culture and Sustainable Tourism Congress – Universidad Católica de El Salvador. ● Founder and Active Member – Licensed Tour Guides Collective of El Salvador.

Overview of your San Salvador tour

Are you ready for an epic hike? Lace up your boots and conquer El Salvador's magnificent Santa Ana volcano. Standing tall at 2,381 meters (7,811 feet), it takes the crown as the tallest and one of the most active volcanoes in the country. With our privileged early access, you will have the unique opportunity to skip the midday crowds, beat the heat, and make the absolute most of your day. Your ascent takes you through a lush cloud forest before opening up into a dramatic volcanic wasteland. At the top, you will witness a massive crater that tells the story of ancient lava flows and ash layers. Looking down, a mesmerizing sight awaits you: a glowing turquoise sulfuric-acid crater lake that will leave you completely in awe. Best of all, this rewarding adventure is suitable for active kids too, making it a fantastic family experience. As your professional guide with over 400 summits across 18+ years, I know this terrain like my own backyard. Prepare for an unforgettable journey to the summit!

Alfredo had a terrific plan for the day. The early start allowed us to get up to the top of Santa Ana Volcano with almost nobody else there. We avoided all the crowds that we saw hiking up as we hiked down. He was very knowledgeable about the volcanos and the region and is an excellent story teller. We had a great lunch afterwards at a restaurant by a nearby lake. He was fantastic and I learned so much about El Salvador and its history. 100% recommend.

We highly recommend this tour and our wonderful guide, Alfredo. He was an amazing guide as he took us through the Santa Ana Volcano. He was patient, knowledgeable and friendly through our entire trip. We were in awe of the views at every lookout point but reaching the top of the crater was extremely rewarding.

This tour was amazing, We got an amazing view of the volcano in the morning. The guide is very knowledgable and will go out of his way to make your experience better. It was too early for breakfast at my hotel because it is served at 7am and they would not make an exeption for me so my guide offered to buy me breakfast. He is a amazing tour guide and this is an amazing tour. I recommend!

Amazing guide! Alfredo was very courteous and knowledgeable about the specific tour up to volcano llamatepecs crater. Despite the fact that he's hiked this volcano many times you can see how he enjoys the hike & nature. Will definitely recommend him to anyone and we'll be using him again! Thanks Alfredo!
