Hola amigos! Bienvenidos a El Salvador. I'm Alfredo, triple - licensed tour guide with over 19 years on the field. Salvadoran born, I lived part of my childhood in San Salvador downtown, on the first years of El Salvador Civil war. It made me witness of some of the most important events in recent history of my country. With a Marketing background and early job experience mainly in advertising, in 2005 I delivered my first tour. That day I found my vocation. Last, but not least: PUPUSAS!! You have to taste them! They are yummy. . . And I know about pupusas: my family had run a pupusería (pupusa shop) for over 40 years. Basically pupusas paid my education! As your local expert my top priorities are: SAFETY: I would never take you (or go myself) to some place I consider is not safe. Common sense is the key. FLEXIBILITY: Have you heard of some nearby spot in particular? Let's watch it! Want to depart later? No problema! Want to try street food? I know a place! ACCURACY: You have my word all information delivered is based on facts and sources. If you let me recommend a place for eating I will always suggest the best value-for-money options, based on quality never on commissions. I always know the nearest place to find the tastiest meals or the coldest beer. I have 3 valid licenses: (1) as General Tour Guide (Guía Nacional), (2) for Los Volcanes Nat. Park (Santa Ana / Cerro Verde / Izalco) and (3) as San Salvador City Downtown Tour Guide (Guía de Sitio San Salvador Centro Histórico), all issued by the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador and the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation as the top authorities in tourism in El Salvador plus multiple certifications, different courses and workshops. I'm also First Aid trained by the Salvadoran Red Cross. I'm experienced on tours of different topics and destinations. Cultural heritage (including museums and archaeological parks), history, craft beer tasting and many off-the-beaten track spots. If you're looking for is the great outdoors I'm your guy! Hiking and trekking is my stuff, either short or long hikes, on National Parks, protected areas or active volcanoes. I'm one of the most experienced tour guides on hiking and trekking in El Salvador. None of my tours support any kind of animal abuse, child labor or illegal activities. I rather endorse and support local and family run businesses. A portion of my earnings are aimed to support animal shelters and a child-care foundation. - Triple-licensed: ● General Tour Guide, ● Specialized Guide in History of San Salvador City Historic Center (old city downtown) ● Specialized Mountain Guide in Santa Ana, Izalco and Cerro Verde volcanoes (Parque Nacional Los Volcanes). All 3 official licenses issued by The Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador and The Salvadoran Tourism Corporation. - Tour Guide Training Course Certified by Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado, the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador and The Salvadoran Tourism Corporation. - International Tour Guide Certification by Aquila Training Center, Canada. - Central American Tourism Integration Secretariat Certified. - Sustainable Destination Management certified by UNWTO. - Updated First Aid training by Salvadoran Red Cross. - Tourist Safety workshop by Policía de Turismo de El Salvador. - Good Practices for Sustainable Tourism workshop by Salvanatura and Smart Voyager. - Accesible Tourism Techniques by Universidad Don Bosco, El Salvador. - Culture and Sustainable Tourism Congress by Universidad Católica, El Salvador. - Founder and active member of Licensed Tour Guides Collective of El Salvador. - Member of the Adventure Travel Trade Organization.

The youngest -and still active- volcano of El Salvador: the mighty Izalco. This geologically new born is also known as The Lighthouse of the Pacific due its permanent aruptions for over 200 years, making it visible as far as the Salvadoran coastline. Start walking down Cerro Verde, an extinct volcano, through the cloud forest till we reach the skirts of Izalco to start ascending this challenging, almost perfectly conic volcano. After getting back to Cerro Verde’s Visitors Center you have been made two volcanoes in one day! Way to go Champ! On a glance: Distance walked: 7.2 Km / 4.5 Mi Duration (actual walking time): ~ 3h 30m – 4h Ascent – Descent: 691 – 676 m / 2267 – 2218 ft Elevation at start: 2019 m / 6624 ft Top elevation: 2019 m / 6624 ft Highlights: A challenging hike rewarded by stunning views to different volcanic belts and mountain ranges in three countries (on a clear day). 2 Volcanoes in one hike!
As a licensed guide for Los Volcanes National Park I'm granted to depart at any time before 11 AM every day of the week so you can walk your own pace, skipping the crowds and taking your time. Don't worry for the noisy or slow hikers. You'll have all the volcano for your own. Call me! Skip the crowds! This hike starts at Cerro Verde's visitors center. From here you walk down the hill, across the cloud forest until reaching the break with the lava fields. Get some rest before facing a more challenging slope and ground. Once on the top you can circle the rim of the crater easily. Grab some snack and hydratation to take the trail back to Cerro Verde. Since Cerro Verde is a different volcano, at the end of the day you conquered TWO VOLCANOES and can proudly say VENI, VIDI, VICI.
