Hola, my name is Jorge. I will be more than glad to be your local guide in Costa Rica, this paradise that I am lucky to call home. I have designed comprehensive one-day tours in order to help you discover and enjoy the amazing nature, culture and gastronomy of my country. In 2006, I participated in a sustainable tourism program in Sweden. After that, I knew what I wanted to do for a living. I have been working as a tour guide since 2008 and I love it but it was not until 2017 when I joined ToursByLocals. I delivered tours for its clients for a year and then I became part of the company's staff where I worked for 2 and a half years. I truly enjoyed this experience as I met and worked with many fellow tour guides from all around the world, as well as sharing with everybody from the offices. . . however, the outdoors have called me back and here I am again, ready for more tours and adventures :) As a traveler myself, I can say the best journeys I've had abroad have been in the company of local people. To me, sharing traditions and going to places with them is the best way to see another country, that's why I like offering tours that cover the "must-see" places but also more authentic experiences in off-the-beaten-path spots. Despite being Costa Rica's capital and the busiest city in the country, San José's main landmarks and hoods can be explored on foot. Indeed, as a "Josefino"(a folk from SJ), I must say this is the best way to discover the city's hidden jewels and interesting details that one might overlook otherwise. "Chepe" as many refer to the capital, is a vibrant and eclectic hub with a rich history and a local scene that is in constant change. The contribution of the different cultural groups settled in the city is another aspect that is easily perceptible as you walk from one block to the next. During this tour, we will cover the downtown central area, its parks, plazas and boulevards, all while walking leisurely towards an up-scale classic "barrio" that has been turned into a gastronomic go-to area, where you will certainly have the chance to satisfy your cravings. This tour is great for first-time visitors, history buffs, or simply anyone who wants to have a good time and make the most of it in San José :)
We had a great time with Jorge on a walking tour of the city of San Jose. We learned so much about the history of the country. He made us feel very welcome and was very professional and courteous. We highly recommend him if you have a day in San Jose.
At the end of the tour, my traveling companion turned to me and said, "That was great!" We both learned so much more than we expected. A lot of the travel guidebooks give little attention to San Jose, and even advise to spend your time in Costa Rica in other places. Jorge gave us historical perspective and context for everything we saw. He was articulate, informative, and enjoyed answering our questions. This tour was a delightful introduction to our stay in Costa Rica. Jorge explained the social and political context for many of Costa Rica's government policies in an engaging way, and guided us to understanding the people and places that shaped modern Costa Rica, while showing where it all happened . He was fun to be with and he was so happy to share the things that make him proud of his country.
