Explore Limon your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Limon tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Limon for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Glide by boat through the Tortuguero canals at dawn as your guide points out howler monkeys, caimans, and sloths in the trees, or time a night walk in season to witness green turtles nesting on the beach. You can also visit the Sloth Sanctuary near Cahuita for a behind the scenes look at rescued sloths and a quiet canoe ride through the lagoon.

Hiking tours: Walk the coastal trail in Cahuita National Park from Kelly Creek to Puerto Vargas with a guide who knows where raccoons, iguanas, and capuchins like to hang out, or tackle rainforest paths and waterfall steps at Veragua Rainforest for canopy views and cool shade. If you want a wilder route, hike the Gandoca–Manzanillo Refuge to Punta Mona for sea views and a swim.

BirdWatching tours: Climb the Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve hawk-watch platform during raptor migration to count kettles of broad-winged hawks with a local birder, then scan fruiting trees for toucans and tanagers. Early-morning birdwatching at Veragua or along the Puerto Vargas boardwalk can turn up trogons, motmots, manakins, and the Great Green Macaw.

Getting around: Downtown Limón is walkable, and public buses reach Cahuita, Puerto Viejo, and the Moín docks for Tortuguero boats, but distances are long and schedules can be slow; you can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide about private transportation between towns and trailheads.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Limon inside and out.
