Puntarenas Costa Rica Shore Excursion: Tarcoles River Crocodile Safari & Carara National Park

Discover the best of Costa Rica’s Central Pacific on this wildlife-filled shore excursion. From the cruise terminal, enjoy an approximately 1-hour private drive to the Tarcoles River, famous for its large crocodiles and abundant birdlife. At the river, join a scheduled boat safari where you may spot crocodiles, iguanas, herons, and other tropical species. This boat tour is the only shared portion of the experience, as you will join other guests onboard; all other transportation and guiding are private. Afterward, you may choose an optional stop for a traditional Costa Rican lunch before continuing to Carara National Park for a guided nature walk in search of monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, frogs, and other wildlife. Lunch, food, drinks, the Tarcoles River boat tour, and the entrance fee to Carara National Park are not included and must be paid separately.

Cruise Terminal Pickup Meet your private guide at the cruise terminal and begin an approximately 1-hour private drive to the Tarcoles River. Tarcoles River Boat Safari Join a scheduled boat tour to explore the river and look for crocodiles, iguanas, herons, and other tropical wildlife. This is the only shared portion of the tour, as other travelers may join the same boat. Optional Lunch Stop After the boat safari, choose an optional stop at a local restaurant for a traditional Costa Rican lunch. Carara National Park Continue with your private guide to Carara National Park for a guided nature walk through its unique transition forest. Search for monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, frogs, and other native wildlife. Return to the Cruise Terminal Travel back privately with comfortable time before your ship’s departure. Food, drinks, the Tarcoles River boat tour, and Carara National Park entrance fees are not included and must be paid separately.
