Hi I'm Paul . I live on the North Coast of Northern Ireland and that suits me fine. I am an outdoors person. I am part of a loving family. I enjoy walking, whatever the weather. I am a keen birder; certainly not an expert but a well-worn amateur. I also like to see what flowers I can identify in the countryside. I have an interest in local history, and reading tastes tend towards biography.

I have been guiding for many years. I concentrate in the area where I live, I don't cover all of Ireland. I enjoy meeting new folk: I have seldom encountered unfriendly or hard-to-please guests. So it's great when folk share a bit about themselves and I can share a bit of me in return. Guiding gets me out in the areas I love. And if there's a walk in it, that's a bonus.

When you tour with me, it will be in Counties Derry and Antrim, in Northern Ireland. There are sandy beaches, rugged coastlines, rolling green pastures and some hills. We don't go in for towering mountains much. Derry is the second city of Northern Ireland, a few miles from the border with the Republic. Our people are friendly and welcoming to tourists. We have a good reputation for our food and drink and there are lots of excellent accommodation options.

This customised tour introduces the visitor to two of Northern Ireland's six counties, namely Antrim and Derry. We also refer to Derry as Londonderry. Why the two names. . . you'll find out from your guide Paul.
All three of the locations visited are firm favourites with our guests. First up, a short distance from the port is Dunluce Castle. The original castle dates from Norman times. The dramatic clifftop ruins you'll see date from the 16th Century. Next is the world famous Giant's Causeway. A little older than Dunluce. . . 60 million years old. Walk with your guide for a leisurely exploration of this World Heritage site.
We continue to Derry for an easy walk around the city centre. Includes the historic 17th Century Walls. You will visit the Guildhall (formerly the Town Hall). Learn about the Siege of Derry and see evidence of Northern Ireland's recent Troubles. Happily times in Derry are now very much better. Your guide is a Derry native and has done the tour many times.

After your visit to the Bushmills Distillery  join your local guide  to visit some local spots. One, the Giant's Causeway, is world famous and is visited by many thousands of folk annually.  Spend some time at the  Stones and hear about their creation millions of years ago. Your guide will also tell you  why it's the GIANT'S Causeway.  Next call at Dunluce Castle  perched dramatically and perilously at the edge of the Atlantic. Continue your journey, moving from  Co Antrim into Co Derry. Our next location is the Mussenden Temple, built by a Bishop in the 18th Century.  He had an  eye for a tremendous view!  We conclude by travelling to pay our respects to a local God.

From Stones to Gods

Derry is Northern Ireland's second city, with the broad River Foyle running through it. Humans probably fished the river for thousands of years, but the city is strongly linked with St Columba, who founded a monastery there in the 6th Century.

Derry is from the Irish DOIRE, meaning an Oak grove. It has a rich but turbulent history right up to the last century. On this tour, history is visible all around you but I will want to talk about life in Derry in the present day. The city centre is compact and suitable for a leisurely walk taking in the sights.

You will certainly want to walk the 18th Century walls and visit St Columb's Cathedral. Visit the Bogside and hear about its violent past with evidence in memorials and murals.
