Hello, my name is Gleann and I am a native of Derry, born in the Brandywell area in 1971, and brought up in Derry all through the conflict. Derry was once the crucible of the modern day conflict and today is one of the most historic and vibrant cities in Ireland. With a lively Irish traditional music scene combined with Irish pubs and a wide range of restaurants Derry is culturally Irish with a unique European feel. I lost my father on the day of Bloody Sunday at the age of 7 months and I have been involved in the Bloody Sunday Justice Campaign and also attended the Saville Inquiry in Derry and London. I am also a B. A. Honours Degree graduate in Irish History and Politics from the Magee campus University of Ulster 2013. This ensures that my tours can be tailored to cover any aspect of Irish history. I also have a level 2 certification in political tour guiding. I provide historical and political tours of Derry ranging from St. Colmcille first monastery in Derry in the year 546, The Plantation of Ulster, 1641 Rebellion, The Siege of Derry leading right up to the more modern history. This period covers the partition of Ireland, Civil Rights period, Battle of the Bogside, Bloody Sunday, in which my own father was murdered, both inquiries in to Bloody Sunday and the social and political repercussions that came from the day of Bloody Sunday and the Irish peace process. Customized tours based on your individual needs are available upon request. Derry is the hidden gem of Ireland. It still has the large village feel for the 4th largest city in Ireland. Overview of your Londonderry tour

Welcome to Derry! This tour begins at the Tower Museum on Magazine Street just inside the city walls with a historical walking tour of Derry's Walls. We will take in the older history of the area from St. Colmcille, Plantation of Ulster, Siege of Derry, 1798 Rebellion and landmarks. The walking tour continues into the heart of the Bogside district of Derry, the crucible of the modern day conflict in Ireland. This part will begin at Free Derry Wall and take you round the Bogside murals and the site of the massacre of Bloody Sunday. My own father, Patrick Doherty, was one of the victims of Bloody Sunday. He was the 12th person murdered on Bloody Sunday. I can tell you from a first hand the key periods leading up to and during the modern conflict sometimes known as the 'Troubles'. Gleann met us at the Tower Museum and spent some time learning about our connection to Derry history before we started our walk. He's a good listener and communicator who made everyone feel like they were part of the tour. We covered a lot of history on the walls and he helped my family imagine what life was like for the ancestors. The Bogside portion of the tour was also great, viewing the murals and talking about the connections of Bloody Sunday to our life in the US today. Hightly recommended.
