Hi, My name is Ruairi . . . . . I was born and raised in Derry's Bogside, and I'm one of the city's longest established tour-guides and resident red head! I'm an accredited and professional guide with 19 years' experience and have had the opportunity to guide thousands of visitors around my beautiful city and throughout the north of Ireland. This is not just a job to me, my biggest passion is home. I love to talk about this place and share what our great country has to offer. "Tá grá agam don teanga. " I love the Irish Language! I'm a fluent Irish speaker and was one of the first generation of children to be educated through the medium of Irish in the city during the modern language revival in the North of Ireland. I have a great love and passion for Gaelic culture and my tours usually end up in a seisiún or two! My tours focus on our countries history, culture, and politics but I also put across my own personal experience having grown up during "the troubles" in the north of Ireland. I offer a range of tours of the city of Derry, including specialized tours of the Bogside area. This area has been directly involved in many of the key events of the 'Troubles', including Bloody Sunday, the Battle of the Bogside and the Hunger strikes. In more recent years the Bogside has been transformed into a modern, vibrant estate and the famous political murals of the 'Bogside Artists', which chronicle the history of the conflict, have made the area the most popular visitor attraction in the city. I will explain the history of the area in detail and can offer a unique insight into the ongoing peace process by providing the opportunity for groups to engage with leading political figures who were directly involved in bringing the troubles to an end. I cant wait to meet you! and I hope after your time with me you come to love my country as much as me! - National Vocational Qualification - Level 3 NVQ in Travel and Tourism services (Guiding) - Registered Level 3 guide - Qualified in Tour guide training at OCN level - World Host Ambassador

We will delve deep into history while visiting ancient forts, Castle ruins, Cultural sites, not to mention the breath-taking scenery, before making our way to the most northerly part of Ireland. This is not just a job to me, my biggest passion is home. That's why I want to make you feel what it was like living in Ireland 200 years ago by visiting these places and listening to our stories. I will explain the history of the area in detail and can offer a unique insight into the ongoing peace process. On this tour we depart Derry city, and cross the border into the Beautiful Donegal, and we make our way to high ground where the majestical fort which is "An Grianan of Aileach" sits. On this hilltop we take in the mind-blowing panoramic views on the Inishowen Peninsula before we walk to the fort and smell the history of 2000 years. It's so beautiful even St Patrick is believed to have visited here! From here we travel through the Inishowen peninsula towards "Fort Dunree" where we wander around this aged military camp and learn of the local military History. Onwards we travel to "Doagh Famine Village where we will meet Pat! This man is a fascinating person to listen to, we will learn about the local life, and how he grew up on the site. He will tell us tales of life in Ireland many years ago from times of the Great Famine, to present day Ireland. Finally, we make our way to the most northerly point on the Island of Ireland "Malin Head" before making our way back to Derry. Customization possible!
