Guide #49078
I have been a Blue Badge Tourist guide for Wales since 2000 and for the South West of England since 2017. Originally from a rural background, I started working life in marketing and advertising in London but moved to North Wales in 1986. Here, I ran a mountain centre in partnership with my husband for 26 years. I am a qualified mountain leader and still lead mountain and countryside walks professionally though now I am slowing down it is best for clients who like to enjoy the hike spending time looking at the view, the plants etc. I regularly work for ground handling companies on cruise excursions, tourism bodies on tour operators' familiarisation and press visits as well as guiding and tour managing for commercial tour operators on day and multi-day tours. I also have several private individual clients. I believe that in the day of downloaded commentaries, the future for tour guides is their skill in adapting the day to suit the client, from academics wanting in-depth history to folk who just want someone to take their pictures in Instagram-great locations. Also, as it is easy to find out dates, figures etc. , what local guides can offer is authenticity and explanations, not just what you are seeing but what local people think of it, why is it there, etc. I look forward to meeting you! I hold the Summer Mountain Leadership Certificate I am an Official Wales Blue Badge Tourist Guide I am a Federation of European Tourist Guides accredited trainer In Britain driver guides need lots of special paperwork. So I am not qualified to drive you. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

(1) We started with a tour of a working sheep farm that is inside Snowdonia National Park. We had the luck to be in Wales during shearing season, so we 3 each were able to help shear a sheep. We then spent some time watching the sheep dog demonstrate its...
Amanda is a great guide...warm, friendly, flexible, good sense of humor, and incredibly knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to spend the day with her and learn so much about Conwy and it's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Amanda is a 5 star guide who we highly recommend.
We met with Amanda for a half-day tour at the beginning of our primarily "self-guided" visit to northern Wales. The tour included all I asked and was friendly, informative and stunning. She shared her knowledge and encouragement which helped us effectively organize the rest of our visit. A most happy interaction, thankyou.
We had a delightful tour with Amanda. We were a group of three with one being a history nut. The historical references and unique facts related to the castle and town were very well explained and questions answered throughly. Not a strenuous walk but one must be able to negotiate stairs and moderate inclines. Thanks to Amanda for a most enjoyable experience.
