I returned to the Isle of Man in 2002 after an absence of 30 years and fell in love with the island all over again. Each weekend I would go exploring and found that the breathtaking scenery and the social history of the island captured my imagination. I started to research my family tree and have traced back to 1600's, something I love doing and helping people with. In 2011 I embarked on a journey, studying to become a blue badge guide, and finally in 2013 achieved my goal. The Isle of Man is an incredible place to visit and has so much to offer its visitors, from its Viking and Celtic origins through the turbulent middle ages to the Victorian heritage that made it what it is today. Light pollution is minimal here and it has been awarded 'dark skies' status. Like Mannanin the Celtic sea god of the Isle of Man, let me take you on a journey and show you my beautiful island and share its secrets with you! I am a qualified blue badge guide with the Manx Guild of Tourist Guides having qualified in 2013 with a good knowledge of local history, heritage sites and local areas of interest. I am a fully insured driver guide and have full police checks as well as an up to date first aid certificate. Although I am not an accredited genealogists, I have been doing family research for a number of years and have an accreditation through Future Learn with Strathclyde University. I am on a list of researchers with the Isle of Man Family History Society as well as the Manx National Heritage Museum and Archives. I work part time at the archives and library and this has been invaluable in teaching me where and what resources are held at the museum.
