Enjoy the ultimate beauty! Fautaua or Fachoda Waterfall is one of the most spectacular places of Tahiti laying at the end of Fautau valley, so you deserve the honor to admire its beauty. The place is accessible only by hike and to get there demands a relatively good physical ability. During our walk along the valley, nature will surround us with all its untouched tropical charm, with the scents that emanate from the vegetation. We will follow the river going deep inside to the Fautaua Valley, which is itself a magnificent site of historical and educational interest. You will need good hiking shoes and to be ready to climb the ascending and descending path through the tropical forest, which might be steep and slippery on a combination of switchbacks and muddy tracks with exposed tree roots. The final view at the top is breathtaking, the waterfall is around 985 ft high, and is the 28th world's highest waterfall, so to get the thrill you need to experience it!
Your Papeete tour itinerary
We will meet each other at the gate of Fautaua valley. In the beginning, the path goes along a quiet river surrounded by the green landscape. Here we will see an easily accessible marae (Polynesian temple). After this warm-up walking that will take us a good hour, we arrive at the Fachoda Bridge. After the bridge, the path ascends gradually up the mountain. The uphill hiking continued up to get to a point where the trail narrowed with some drop ff exposure. There are wires bolted into the cliffs so the unsure could hold onto the wires while proceeding. As we progress on the hillside walking on a zigzagging footpath, we observe the richness of the flora: palm trees, ferns, coconut trees, fir trees… Another hour into our hike, we arrive at a superb look-out point. From this vantage point, we see our main objective - the Fautaua waterfall. The view is splendid and breathtaking. The number of hours needed to go up and down may vary to depend on weather conditions and physical shape of the group. In a case of a bad weather, the access to Fautaua valley could be blocked by city hall. Is such a case, replacement hike will be offered.
