Overview of your Papeete tour
Accompanied by my comprehensive commentary on all things Polynesian past and present, we start by driving past the Presidential palace, street art and Papeete market. we continue onto the East coast with its black sand beaches, luxuriant vegetation and numerous waterfalls including the spectacular Vaimahuta. Venus Point is a beautiful black sand beach, much appreciated by the locals, where all the European navigators stopped in the 1700’s. Vaipahi gardens used in the past for spiritual purification by the Teva now showcase tropical plants, natural springs and pools with multicolored water lilys, Koi, Tilapia and freshwater eels. Maraa fern cave is an ancient lava flow filled by a natural spring, it’s a popular place where locals swim to cool off. The Marae Arahurahu is a reconstructed sacred site where we find Tiki’s representations of Tahitian gods and where human sacrifice was once practiced. We will also discuss modern life on the island, no subject is Tabu!
