Explore Maastricht your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Maastricht tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Maastricht for every interest, including:

History tours: Visit the Basilica of Saint Servatius and its treasury, then go underground in the Maastricht caves at Sint‑Pietersberg and walk the ramparts of Fort Sint Pieter. Round out your tours at the medieval Helpoort city gate.

Architecture tours: Compare Romanesque and Gothic churches with riverfront warehouses in Wyck, then see modern lines in the Céramique district at Centre Céramique and over the Hoge Brug. Step into Boekhandel Dominicanen to experience a church thoughtfully reused as a bookshop.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Hike the ENCI quarry trails on Sint‑Pietersberg to spot Konik horses and limestone cliffs, or follow the Jeker valley through vineyards for tastings at Apostelhoeve. You can also take a boat tour on the Maas to watch herons and cormorants along the banks.

The centre is very walkable and served by local buses and trains. For hills, vineyards, caves, or nearby parks, your guide can arrange a chauffeured tour or private transport.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Maastricht inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Maastricht

From Maastricht you can slide into hill country or cross a border in minutes, so day trips feel simple and your tour can match food stops, history, or fresh-air time without rushing.

- Valkenburg and the Geul Valley: Hilltop ruins, marlstone caves, and a riverside trail give you a mix of light hiking and local history. It’s close, it’s scenic, and cafés keep the pace relaxed after you explore.

- Aachen, Germany: Walk from the old centre to student streets lined with bakeries and beer halls, then check imperial landmarks and small courtyards. If you like architecture with a lived-in feel, this is an easy cross-border day.

- Liège, Belgium: Climb the Montagne de Bueren stairs for a city view, drift along the riverfront, and sample hearty waffles and market snacks. Street life, murals, and side streets make this a good pick if you enjoy urban energy.

- Tongeren and Haspengouw: Roman walls and a famous Sunday antique market pair well with rolling orchard country just outside town. Come for early finds and then switch to quiet roads through blossoms in spring or fruit stands later in the year.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Maastricht most travellers miss.
