-After we've gathered, I'll discuss the 1680 Portuguese foundation of Colonia and the long dispute between Portugal & Spain at the main gate of the historic quarter. -I'll then explain the defensive layout of the city walls and drawbridge, before walking to the Calle de los Suspiros, known for its cobblestones and 18th-century houses. -Next, we'll see the Lighthouse and the ruins of the San Francisco Convent. -Afterwards, we'll visit the Basilica of the Holy Sacrament, one of Uruguay’s oldest churches. -We'll then walk to Plaza Mayor, which is surrounded by museums and colonial homes. -Next, we'll stop by El Portón for a traditional savoury tasting. -Following that, we'll pass by Pulpería Los Faroles to sample cheeses and cured meats or enjoy or a small warm dish. -Later, we'll step inside Charco Bistro for dessert and coffee with river views. -We'll finish the tour with a walk along the waterfront.
