I moved to Washington, DC in 2000 with the intention of staying three to five years. However, I quickly fell in love with the city and the diversity of our country's history as noted in the stories popping out around every corner of the city. Since being in Washington, I have relished the time I spend with family and friends, telling those stories, and I look forward to doing the same with you. Experiencing Washington DC on foot is the most delightful way to see this historical and wondrous city - really touching and feeling this place: absorbing the energy, getting close to the stunning architecture, talking with local residents on the streets - in essence, experiencing life the way locals do. I am an enthusiastic and creative professional private tour guide. I am timely, people-oriented, and I will offer you a meaningful, personal private tour. If possible, I like to add a surprise site to each of my tours. I am a licensed Washington DC guide and a member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington DC. I am unable to provide transportation. I am open to using public transport and ride shares/taxis when necessary. Note that I don't provide museum tours, nor large group walking or bus tours.

Overview of your Washington Dc tour

Part of Pierre L'Enfant's original 1791 design, Eastern Market is Washington's oldest residential neighborhood. Known as the heart and soul of Capitol Hill, Eastern Market is filled with history, eclectic shopping and unique homes. As we stroll through the leafy green streets and pass by the historic Haines Washington Store, we'll learn about a prominent women who played a role in the development of Eastern Market. After heading down Barracks Row, with its unique shops and restaurants, we'll reach the site of Washington DC's largest employer for 150 years - and the reason for the neighborhood's early development and growth. You'll walk in the steps of George Washington, Francis Scott Key, John Philip Sousa and many more. This neighborhood is home to many DC families, who share it's historical significance with its charm and historically gritty manufacturing waterfront.
