Thank you for considering me as your guide in Washington, DC! I’m a former architect and lifelong admirer of all things brick and mortar. In 2015, I left the drafting desk to start DC Design Tours, trading blueprints for storytelling so I could share my passion for buildings instead of just drawing them. A graduate of the University of Maryland’s Architecture Program, I’ve called D.C. home since 2006 (though I originally hail from the “exotic” suburbs of New Jersey). When I’m not guiding, you might find me counting the 152 columns at the National Building Museum or exploring Rock Creek Park in search of Civil War remnants. Over the years, I’ve guided families, students, professionals, military groups, and international travelers, and I consider it an honor to serve as an ambassador of the District. My tours dive into the stories behind the architecture, urban planning, and design that have shaped our nation’s capital. From iconic landmarks to tucked-away gems, we’ll uncover conflicts, controversies, and the fascinating personalities who left their mark on Washington. I’m a full-time licensed Washington, D.C. tour guide and member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides. I also serve as a certified guide at the Washington National Cathedral and the National Building Museum, and volunteer with the National Park Service. • Licensed Washington, D.C. Tour Guide • Member, Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington, D.C. • Certified Washington National Cathedral Guide Please note: I am not a driver, but I’m happy to accompany you on public transit or a taxi.

Each spring, Washington DC’s iconic cherry trees transform the Tidal Basin into a breathtaking landscape of pink and white blossoms. This fleeting spectacle, when over 3,000 trees burst into bloom, has become one of the city’s most beloved traditions and a lasting symbol of international friendship. On this tour, we’ll experience the blossoms at their best while exploring the design and symbolism of the memorials they frame. From the bold vision behind the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial to the sprawling Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the classical grandeur of Thomas Jefferson’s temple, we’ll uncover how architecture, history, and landscape converge around the Basin. Along the way, we’ll learn the fascinating story of the cherry trees themselves and discover views and details most visitors miss.
We start with a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. From the towering “Stone of Hope” to carved quotations and subtle water features, we’ll explore the memorial’s meaning and controversial design competition that brought it to life. As we stroll the shoreline, we’ll trace the story of the cherry trees and how they came to line the Basin. Our path continues to the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. Designed as a series of outdoor “rooms,” the waterfalls, sculptures, and inscriptions immerse visitors in the life of America’s longest-serving president, blending political legacy and personal struggle. We’ll discuss the ongoing project to rebuild the Basin’s sinking seawall — essential to protecting the cherry trees and memorials. Our tour wraps up at the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, a textbook neoclassical landmark with a few secrets of its own. Along the way, we’ll uncover hidden perspectives and overlooked stories that reveal a deeper side to DC’s celebrated springtime spectacle.
