Thank you for considering me as your guide in Washington, DC! I’m a former architect and lifelong admirer of all things brick and mortar. In 2015, I left the drafting desk to start DC Design Tours, trading blueprints for storytelling so I could share my passion for buildings instead of just drawing them. A graduate of the University of Maryland’s Architecture Program, I’ve called D.C. home since 2006 (though I originally hail from the “exotic” suburbs of New Jersey). When I’m not guiding, you might find me counting the 152 columns at the National Building Museum or exploring Rock Creek Park in search of Civil War remnants. Over the years, I’ve guided families, students, professionals, military groups, and international travelers, and I consider it an honor to serve as an ambassador of the District. My tours dive into the stories behind the architecture, urban planning, and design that have shaped our nation’s capital. From iconic landmarks to tucked-away gems, we’ll uncover conflicts, controversies, and the fascinating personalities who left their mark on Washington. I’m a full-time licensed Washington, D.C. tour guide and member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides. I also serve as a certified guide at the Washington National Cathedral and the National Building Museum, and volunteer with the National Park Service. • Licensed Washington, D.C. Tour Guide • Member, Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington, D.C. • Certified Washington National Cathedral Guide Please note: I am not a driver, but I’m happy to accompany you on public transit or a taxi.

Each spring, Cleveland Park comes alive with one of DC’s most spectacular cherry blossom displays, offering a serene alternative to the crowds at the Tidal Basin. Home to the largest concentration of cherry trees in the city, this historic streetcar suburb transforms into a pink-and-white wonderland that perfectly frames the neighborhood’s eclectic architecture. From the Gothic Revival towers of the Washington National Cathedral to turreted Victorians, storybook cottages, and early modernist homes, the blossoms bring new life and seasonal perspective to every street and garden. Perfect for photographers, nature lovers, and architecture enthusiasts alike, this tour reveals the beauty and charm of Cleveland Park in peak bloom—Washington’s best-kept springtime secret.
We start outside the Washington National Cathedral, where soaring Gothic spires and intricate stonework are beautifully framed by blooming cherry trees. In the Bishop’s Garden, we’ll wander among seasonal blossoms, peek inside a picturesque gazebo, discuss historic plantings, and discover peaceful nooks perfect for photos. Strolling through the leafy streets of Cleveland Park, we’ll admire turreted Queen Anne mansions, cozy Arts & Crafts bungalows, and a mid-century landmark designed by I.M. Pei. Along the way, we’ll visit Rosedale, a rare remnant of the neighborhood’s rural past, and pause at the former site of Grover Cleveland’s summer estate, Oak View. Cherry trees line many of these historic streets, creating a canopy of pink and white petals over early 20th-century homes. Our walk concludes near McLean Gardens, once a Gilded Age estate and later redeveloped into a unique apartment complex, offering a final opportunity to enjoy blossoms against a backdrop of eclectic architecture and lush gardens.

Our walking route is mostly flat, following paved sidewalks and cobblestone paths, with a few sets of stairs and a gradual incline. While the stairs can be navigated with strollers, some areas of the gardens may be difficult for wheelchair users.
