Hi! I have been giving tours of Washington for over ten years. I have no set script - just lots of good stories to share - and pictures. Washington is easy to love - the world's most powerful city is also one of the world's most beautiful - wide avenues, old neighborhoods, abundant gardens, tree-lined streets and wooded parks. I think George Washington would be very pleased to see what became of the place he chose to be the new Federal City. The story of Washington D. C. is also the story of the beginning of a new nation. Its very existence is linked to the efforts of people such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton. Today, its memorials and buildings are part of our American identity and remind us of the important moments in our common history. These are the stories that inspire me and these are the stories I want to share. I have lived in Washington for over twenty years and am passionate about the history and people of this great town. The best part of being a tour guide is getting to meet wonderful people from all over the country and the world. I love making tours interesting and fun for people of all ages. But I think it is also important that each tour be meaningful - that the stories I tell and the places we visit reveal something essential about Washington and in a larger sense, about the history of our country. I am licensed by the city of Washington, D.C. as a tour guide and provide narrated tours of the city and surrounding area. I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some notes about touring with children: I really love having kids on my tours, but they do present a few challenges. Here's some of my observations about touring with children: Pre-school and kindergarten - they cannot do the walking required. And they need to be bribed with lots of treats! 5th grade and below - they love the Lincoln Memorial, White House and Washington Monument. After that - it becomes very hard to keep their attention. 8th grade and below - 3 hours is about the limit. We need to stick to the highlights - Lincoln Memorial, White House, Washington Monument and perhaps the Capitol. High school - depends on the group. I have also noticed that kids respond differently when they are traveling with their friends vs. when they are traveling with their parents. When they are with their friends they are more outgoing and vocal and enjoy the attention from a tour guide. When they are with their parents they seem more withdrawn and not as expressive.

This tour has it all - Arlington Cemetery, Memorials, White House and Capitol Hill. There's a lot of walking, but we will also use taxis to cover one or two stretches that are over a mile long. The tour also includes tickets to The People's House and the Library of Congress (subject to availability).
We meet up at the entrance to Arlington Cemetery (in Virginia). The first stop is the grave of President John F. Kennedy and the eternal flame. Next we stop at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to see the famous changing of the guard. We wrap up our Arlington visit with a stop at the historic Arlington House. From Arlington, we cross the Potomac to the National Mall. (Due to the distance, this is best done via taxi). Our next stops are the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials. Then we can walk (or taxi) to Lafayette Park for views of the White House and the West Wing. Our final stop will be Capitol Hill (Taxi would be approx. $15. 00). At Capitol Hill we can see the Supreme Court building and the wonderful Library of Congress (open Tues - Sat. 10am to 4pm).
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
We will need to take a taxi from Arlington National Cemetery to the National Mall. The rest of the tour can be done by walking, though taking a taxi from the White House to the U.S. Capitol is recommended. Taxis will run about $15.00 per trip.
Arlington, Virginia, United States
Unless we arrange otherwise, I will plan to meet you at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery. NOTE: Due to security arrangements at the cemetery, all bags must be screened and all visitors must have a photo ID to be allowed into the cemetery.
