From the moment I visited the California beaches at age 11, I knew this is the place I wanted to live and work. I've explored and experienced this state for over 35 years, my children are California natives. I love to be outdoors. Camping, hiking, riding a bike, paddling a kayak. And learning out about the plants, wildlife, climate, cultural history and natural environment of Ventura and the area. Just over the last few years, for example, I've been keenly bird watching, especially migratory species to our area and shorebirds. There is no better way to value and appreciate the natural world in your own town than by going out and learning about it in person! Come with me to fall in love with our beautiful shore, clean air, sparkling sea, and sunny skies. All my tour can be customized upon request, feel free to contact me. Ventura is the rare combination of a sophisticated town in a beautiful natural setting. You will be immersed in uncrowded beaches, cool ocean breezes, and rugged hillsides while never leaving modern amenities from scores of independent boutique shops and restaurants. I have lived here for 25 years and walking is the best way to get up close and personal with Ventura. Take in breathtaking views from way above the town, as well as see where the Spanish Missionaries settled the area. Spot marine wildlife, check out the surfers and maybe a celebrity (no promises!). Get off the main path to peek at side attractions (Patagonia anyone? the world headquarters and original first 1973 store are in Ventura). Ventura remains unspoiled and a delightful escape from the big city down south. Come for the beach vibe, leave with the sand in your toes and sound of surf in your ear. A waiver is required for this tour (provided in person at the start of our day).
1: Walk within the Ventura Botanic Garden trails to about 500' or more above the city for 180 degree views of miles of coastline. Take a short hike version (30 min) or a longer version (1hr) depending on fitness level and desire. In spring (approx. Apr-June) the Botanic Garden plants may be bursting with flowers. 2: Stroll down Main street, now a pedestrian-only corridor, to survey shops and restaurants. Option to pop inside those establishments that are absolutely irresistible for a quick shopping or snack fix. 3: Stop in front of and learn about the San Buenaventura Mission, including the Native American Chumash people that were present in the area far longer than the Spanish settlers. 4: Walk down the bike path to discover the Ventura River Estuary home to wildlife such as pelicans and egrets. 5: Beach Vibe! Take a walk on the beach path past the local scene of surfers and beachgoers. Go through the nationally acclaimed successful Sea Level Rise Managed Retreat area. Tour is customizable upon request
