From the moment I visited the California beaches at age 11, I knew this is the place I wanted to live and work. I've explored and experienced this state for over 35 years, my children are California natives. I love to be outdoors. Camping, hiking, riding a bike, paddling a kayak. And learning out about the plants, wildlife, climate, cultural history and natural environment of Ventura and the area. Just over the last few years, for example, I've been keenly bird watching, especially migratory species to our area and shorebirds. There is no better way to value and appreciate the natural world in your own town than by going out and learning about it in person! Come with me to fall in love with our beautiful shore, clean air, sparkling sea, and sunny skies. All my tour can be customized upon request, feel free to contact me. Ventura is a delightful place to ride, with beach bike paths, cool breezes and quiet seaside residential streets. We'll go about 5 miles one-way (10 mile total ride) at an easy pace with stopping at many points of interest. Biking is the perfect way to be active, get around sustainably, and have fun! I know because I cycle almost every day around town! Our furthest point is Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center, with time built in to explore the park exhibits, go to the harbor, take refreshment breaks, shop, and check out local art work. Sounds of surf and sea breezes will be present! Almost all of the ride is on either bike-pedestrian only lanes or low volume residential streets. A non-electric beach cruiser bike rental is included in the tour price, but the rider must sign a rental agreement and waiver at the bike shop. An additional waiver for booking this tour is necessary. Copies of either waiver available in advance.
1: Start at the bike rental shop and go a short way down the bike path to discover the Ventura River Estuary, home to wildlife such as pelicans, cormorants and gulls. 2: Continue on the beach bike path, watch the surfing scene and go through the nationally acclaimed successful Sea Level Rise Managed Retreat area. 3. Ride the beach bike path past Ventura State Beach, then through low trafficked residential beach community streets, to the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center. 4. Explore the National Park exhibits, go through the native plant garden, and up into the lookout tower. 5. Ride a short distance back to the harbor village shops for break time to have a cool ice cream or hot drink, or visit the local art venues (pottery guild and painters co op). 6. Reverse travel on the same course to the bike shop with, time permitting, a walk with the bikes to the end of the Historic Ventura Pier along the way. Tour can be customized upon request
