I was born in the NW valley of Albuquerque, High School and College. Both my parents families were the beneficiaries of land grants in Northern New Mexico, one was from the King of Spain the other Woodrow Wilson back in the 1800's so my history and culture of New Mexico goes back many generations. New Mexico is my passion, I was absent from the state for 30 years as I was employed at Boeing as a engineer making aircraft in the state of Washington. I would return to my home state several times a year during my absence and each trip involved mountain hikes and camping in Northern New Mexico to explore and experience the beauty of this state. I have hiked the highest peaks of New Mexico (Truchas, Wheeler, Jicarita and many more) on my solo adventures. The most memorable was on Wheeler Peak (13, 161') was a sunset ascent and then a moonlit descent, the other was a late December solo summit on the snow covered trail. Hiking in snow is a typical hike that I have experienced in the state of Washington hiking to the base camps on Mt Rainier, summiting Mt Adams on a two day and other day hikes on snow covered mountains of Washington. I am an outdoor enthusiast and can offer high altitude running on the mountain trails, bike tours and other exciting adventures. I was/am an active runner competing in over 500 races (of all distances) in the last 10 years. Adventures with beauty and excitement awaits!! The Tour can start in the city of Santa Fe, where we can meet up and then drive up to the ski area (35 minutes) start the hike at the base of Ski Santa Fe. From the ski base we follow the dirt road to the Millennium Chair lift, follow the creek up the mountain (water available for dogs) enter one of the areas where the movie Lone Survivor was filmed. Cross into the woods to intersect the Raven Ridge trail, from this point depending on your ability its 15minutes to deception Peak that has a beautiful over look of the city of SF and Nambe lake (another hiking adventure coming soon). Up at this point is another location of the filming of the movie. This hike is 5 miles or more depending on out and back (circle hike) with a elevation gain almost 2,000 to 2200' depending on your ability or desire of the route. The hike my dog and i average round trip moving time about 2 hrs, but we do this weekly.
We will start in the city of Santa Fe, then head up to the ski area a 35 minute drive. Hike up the mountain to Deception Peak 12,000' (via two different routes depending on your preference or desire). Pass by a few film sites, with some photo ops. Point out a few locations in the distance; town of Los Alamos, the peaks of Truchas, Sandia mountains ect.
