While in graduate school at U. C. L. A. in California, I was employed by the Cultural Affairs Division of the U. S. Department of State, in Washington D. C. as a foreign visitors escort officer accompanying individuals invited to tour cities throughout the U. S. as guests of the State Department. Born in North Carolina, the son of a Foreign Service Officer, I have lived abroad, and in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D. C, and have resided in Raleigh since 1987. I graduated with a B. A. degree in history from the College of Wooster, Ohio before attending U. C. L. A. for an M. A. international studies. I own and operate a relocation service, welcoming travelers and new transplants to North Carolina, providing my experience and knowledge of the region over the past 25 years to families and visitors from all over the world. A student of history, I am a poet and novelist, having recently completed a Civil War mystery telling the story of the last letter President Lincoln wrote. If I could have given Mr. Chris a 10, I would have. He has life experience that contributes to him being the perfect guide for this tour. And, he is friendly. My husband and I highly recommend this tour with Mr. Chris.
Absolutely fantastic tour! We are considering relocating to Raleigh and only had a short time to visit to form an impression. We are so grateful to have met Chris. In one afternoon, Chris was able to provide us with an amazing overview of the city's key attractions (plus some hidden gems), neighborhoods, and history. We would never have been able to achieve this on our own. Chris helped us to appreciate first hand the beauty, charm, and depth that Raleigh has to offer.
Great tour! Lots of information, his love for his hometown shines through!
Chris was a joy to work with. He was willing to accommodate for our groups special needs, and make adjustments for our elderly family members. He was incredibly knowledgeable, and easy to work with.
We truly enjoyed the walking/driving tour with Chris. He is an excellent tour guide, was punctual picking us up & has good people/communication skills. Having never visited Raleigh, he was a wealth of information & interesting historical facts. With so much to see, he was very organized & managed to show us a lot in 3 hours. Raleigh is beautiful & this fantastic tour gave us a good feel of the city. We look forward to coming back & will definitely hire Chris again.
Meet at 9:00 a. m. or a time most convenient for you, at designated hotel, or the North Carolina State History Museum in the center of the historic district. After a brief introduction to Raleigh through museum exhibits, walk to the historic State Capital, legislature, Museum of Science, and other major landmarks. After a brief rest stop, drive to see additional architectural sites, old homes, parks and the famous Oakwood Cemetery. The tour will continue to the tremendously popular and attractive North Carolina State Farmers Market, and return through the grounds of the impressive and recently completed Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University, before returning to the hotel designated.
