Explore Cleveland your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Cleveland tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Cleveland for every interest, including:

Art and Culture tours: Spend a morning with a guide at the Cleveland Museum of Art to focus on your favourite galleries, then explore vibrant mural lanes in Ohio City or Hingetown and, when schedules allow, peek inside restored theatres at Playhouse Square. You can also add a stop at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to trace the stories behind legendary tracks and stage costumes.

History tours: Walk Lake View Cemetery to climb the Garfield Monument for city views and visit John D. Rockefeller’s gravesite, then continue along remnants of Millionaires’ Row near Mather Mansion to hear Gilded Age stories. Your tours can also include St. John’s Episcopal Church, a documented Underground Railroad site, and the old bridges of the Flats that powered Cleveland’s industrial rise.

Food and Drink tours: Taste your way through West Side Market with pierogi, bratwurst, and fresh pastries, then head to Little Italy on Mayfield Road for espresso and cannoli at a century-old bakery. Many tours add brewery hops in Ohio City, including a guided tasting at Great Lakes Brewing Co. to compare classics like Dortmunder Gold.

Downtown, Ohio City, and University Circle are walkable and linked by RTA rail and the HealthLine BRT, but getting between spread-out neighbourhoods is easier with wheels; you can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide about tours with private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Cleveland inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Cleveland

If you’re based in Cleveland, consider quick day trips to nearby cities, lake towns, and parks that add fresh food, nature, and architecture to your plan, and mix in short walking tours, tastings, or scenic drives as you go.

- Cuyahoga Valley National Park: Easy trails to Brandywine and Blue Hen Falls, the Ohio & Erie Towpath for cycling, and canal-era sites make this an easy nature break; hikers, cyclists, and photographers get variety in a compact area, and you can add a simple picnic, bakery stops in Peninsula, or short history tours along the locks.

- Grand River Valley wine country (Geneva, Madison, Harpersfield): Cool-climate vineyards pour crisp whites and light reds, country roads pass barns and river flats, and Ashtabula County’s covered bridges add quick photo stops; ideal if you like tastings, vineyard walks, and a slow lunch, and it suits friends who split interests between wine, coffee, and antique shops in small-town centres.

- Marblehead Lighthouse and Sandusky waterfront: Stand at one of Lake Erie’s classic lighthouses, watch freighters slide past, then follow the shore to Sandusky for historic blocks, local ice cream, and harbour views; a good fit for families who want water views without long hikes, and for anyone who enjoys relaxed shoreline walks and simple history moments.

- Oberlin: A compact college town with serious music and art roots, leafy streets, and the Allen Memorial Art Museum, plus Underground Railroad history markers; art lovers, architecture fans, and history readers get depth in an easy loop, and cafés and neighbourhood shops keep the pace slow.

- Akron and Cuyahoga Falls: Street art, the Northside district, and canal history meet riverfront views at the Falls; pair short Summit Metro Parks trails with local bakeries, and it works well if you like quick urban stops mixed with green space and a few bites between sights.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Cleveland most travellers miss.
