Explore Aspen your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Aspen tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Aspen for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Spot elk at dawn in the meadows of North Star Nature Preserve, watch beavers at work, and stroll the boardwalk at Hallam Lake with a naturalist. Or head toward Independence Pass for alpine wildflowers and bighorn sheep viewing, with short walks to scenic stops like the Grottos Ice Caves.

Adventure tours: Hike to Cathedral Lake or American Lake, try downhill mountain biking in Snowmass, or paddleboard the gentle North Star stretch of the Roaring Fork with a guide handling permits and gear. In winter, go snowshoeing on Buttermilk’s trails or skin up Tiehack for sunrise laps if you’re up for it.

Layover tours: If you’re landing at ASE with a few hours, a guide can, if reservations allow, get you on the Maroon Bells shuttle for a quick lakeside loop and photos, then back for a coffee on Hyman Avenue. Short on time? Walk the John Denver Sanctuary and a segment of the Rio Grande Trail before your next flight.

The core is very walkable, and free RFTA buses link town to ski areas and trailheads seasonally. For remote trailheads and flexible timing, you can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide about private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Aspen inside and out.

From Aspen, short drives bring you to alpine passes, river towns, and quiet valleys; these day trips pair smoothly with private tours focused on scenery, short hikes, and local food stops.

- Independence Pass and Twin Lakes: Climb to high viewpoints above treeline, then descend to calm lakes with picnic spots and mellow shoreline walks. Best for mountain scenery, fall colours, and simple trails that still feel wild.

- Glenwood Springs and Glenwood Canyon: Wander a compact downtown, follow riverside paths with canyon walls above, and explore small museums and shops. A solid pick if you like easy walking, history tidbits, and a change of pace from resort life.

- Redstone and Marble along the Crystal River: See the historic coke ovens, browse small galleries, and watch the river move through a tight valley; Marble adds quiet streets and lake views. Fits photographers, architecture fans, and anyone who enjoys a scenic drive with short stops.

- Basalt and Ruedi Reservoir: Stroll the Fryingpan River in town, then follow the road to a high-country reservoir with pullouts and shoreline walks. Great for anglers, birders, and laid-back afternoons with mountain-water views.
