History and Whisky Full Day Tour

This was a day very well-spent with a wonderfully personable, informative and entertaining tour guide. First off, John was wonderfully flexible in tailoring the tour to our interests. He normally starts from the cruise ship port at Invergordon but gladly picked us up at our hotel in Inverness. Since we were mostly interested in the historic sites and simply rural countryside, he easily tweaked the emphasis and the amounts of time for what we wanted to do. Thus, for instance, after a quick driving tour of Inverness, I was able to spend a lot of time at the Culloden Battlefield and visitor center, prebriefed by John on what I needed to see and do there. (Thanks to John's insistence that I inquire, I learned that I quite likely have a Jacobite officer in my family tree.) Then on to Clava Cairns, which seems to be a popular site for Outlander fans. But since we have not yet watched the Outlander series, we were more interested in the ancient history and mystery of the stone formations there and in the surrounding farmlands. John was excellent in explaining those subjects. Later we toured the countryside in a more leisurely and very enjoyable fashion, seeing lovely rural life, touring Cawdor Castle, viewing a beautiful Victorian railroad viaduct seemingly in the middle of nowhere, a Clydesdale ranch (but no Budweiser), and yes, some Highland Coos. All the while we enjoyed wonderful conversation. We ended the day at the Glen Ord Distillery in Muir of Ord for a terrific and of course educational whisky tasting, with John teaching us several fine things about selecting and savoring our whisky. We unequivocally recommend this tour, but especially John as your guide, and hope to see him again.

John was so much fun to spend a day with. He was able to fill our day with his knowledge of history and stories while also making time for relaxing at a pub and a distillery. I would highly recommend John to anyone travelling to Invergorgden.

Johnny gave us a great overview of the area taking us to many interesting places ending at a distillary. We enjoyed his commentary and knowledge of the area. John was a super guide. He met us at the dock and took us first to Cawdor Castle, then Culloden Battlefield, and then Clava Cairn. He knew all the history behind these places and we really enjoyed this tour. Finally we were able to go to Glen Ord for a whiskey tasting. He made sure we saw everything on our list.!!
