Izmir Through the Ages Half-Day Tour

İzmir is well-known for its Hellenistic and Roman remains, but what is less well-known is that the city is surprisingly rich in Neolithic and Bronze age remains as well. On this tour, we will drive to the mounds of Old Smyrna where we can see rare eighth century remains, from Homer's time including an Athena temple and city walls. Similarities with Troy are remarkable, but old Smyrna has actual buildings whereas Troy has only their outline. We will visit the Yesilova Hoyuk where Neolithic remains are beautifully arranged for the appreciation of the visitors. An ultra modern exhibit hall is accompanied by reconstructed Neolithic huts. We conclude the day at the recently renovated Izmir Archaeology Museum, aptly renamed recently, as the "Culture Factory, where there is a collection of Artemis statues, patron Goddess of East Mediterranean as well as other Greek Roman sculpture and ethnographic remains.
