Basel, located at the intersection of 3 countries, is Switzerland’s third largest city and only port. It is a place where cultures meet and coexist! For years I have been exploring this city and invite you to join me on a handcrafted tour through the heart of Basel. I’ll be sure to show you both the “must see” sights and the neighborhoods. We’ll travel from the pristine city hall, through the Spalenberg, to the Barefoot Square. At the edge of old town we’ll take a look at the Concert Hall and Tinguely Fountain. We’ll walk through alleys and the main streets on our way to the Basel Minster. As we move you'll see a mix of the medieval and modern in the form of art, architecture and local culture. I’ll share the city’s stories and history. And tell you about the people who once walked the city streets. By the time we are finished you will know Basel and Switzerland in a new way.
Great tour. Cynthia is outstanding. Amazing historical and cultural knowledge.
Cynthia was an excellent tour guide. She is a native English speaker without an accent. She shared a wealth of historical and cultural information that gave great perspective on the city. Her tour was very comprehensive and well organized. She is a consummate professional.
We were a group of four adults on a very hot day in June and we all greatly enjoyed our tour with Cynthia. She has a deep understanding of Swiss history, art and culture along with an abundance of quirky and interesting local facts; the combination kept us all interested and entertained. She went into great detail when necessary or when we had questions but didn’t overburden us with non stop facts. She has a great sense of humor and the two hours flew by. We would highly recommend Cynthia for ANY city tour in Switzerland.
Lovely guide, excellent English, lots of interesting details & history. Nicely paced.
We met Cynthia at our hotel in Basel and she gave us a very nice 2 hour walking tour that covered areas of the city that would not be covered by our introduction tour of the city by our Gate 1 Tour manager. We were able to use Basel's electric trams to get around to various parts of the city and learned about the city's history and information about Switzerland. Cynthia provided lots of information and delivered us back to our hotel at the end of the 2-hour tour. Great Job Tours by Locals - hopefully we will be able to use your company in 2026 when we visit Amsterdam
Terrific 2 hour orientation to Basel. Cynthia is fun, knowledgeable and totally open to all questions. She brings a great perspective to her descriptions of the city’s architecture and to Swiss culture.

The main method of transport is our feet, so please wear comfortable shoes because walking is the optimal way to explore Basel. However if you have trouble with mobility we can use the tram for a portion of the tour.
