Poblet Abbey, a Day tour to the heart of Catalunya and its history

The Abbey of Poblet has for me a special I was married in Poblet and so did my parents. Poblet is a place of national pride for the catalan nation as it is the royal pantheon of Aragon, and here were buried nobles and aristocrats for centuries. In fact the house of Castille built the Abbey of El Escorial a their royal pantheon as a copy of the royal abbey of Poblet. It is the largest monastery on the Cistercian Route and the only one that maintains a community of monks. Chosen by the Count of Barcelona in the 12th century to establish the Cistercian community, it is an impressive architectural ensemble considered a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1991. It also enjoyed the protection of the sovereigns of the Catalan-Aragonese confederation for generations. : especially since Peter III the Ceremonious (1336-1387) made the monastery a royal pantheon.
