We’ll move at your pace, stopping whenever you like for photos or short walks. Discover Portugal’s iconic cork oak forests and learn how cork is harvested during a visit to a local cork factory—one of the country’s oldest and most sustainable traditions. In the famous marble triangle of Vila Viçosa, Borba, and Estremoz, you’ll see marble everywhere—from streets and benches to doorways and window frames. We finish in magical Monsaraz, with cobbled lanes, whitewashed houses, and unforgettable views over the plains and the Alqueva Dam.
Paulo was an excellent guide! Very knowledgeable in all aspects of the tour: history, culture, nature, geology and economy of the region. The cork factory and the process he explained was a totally new subject for us and very interesting. Paulo was very kind and helpful.
Paulo arrived promptly and immediately adapted to the rainy conditions, as he drove us through the beautiful countryside. By the last village the weather had changed for the better and we got a feel of a village in ancient times. We stopped at a local cafe for lunch and had the local specialty, bifana, a delicious pork sandwich. We enjoyed the day and highly recommend him.
We couldn't have asked for a better day exploring the Alentejo with Paulo! Not only was the tour incredibly comprehensive in terms of experiencing some of the region's highlights, but Paulo was full of great information, patient and adaptable, and a pleasure to spend the day with. (It also helped that he somehow arranged for gorgeous weather, too.) All three of us listed this day as one of our favorite parts of our Portugal vacation, and we can't wait to return and spend more time in the Alentejo. Paulo is so full of knowledge about this region of Portugal. He took us to the places less traveled, explained how the cork trees are grown and the cork harvested and then why there are farmers out here, about the dam and HUGE lake. We dined at a real Portuguese “diner” and the food was so good. This was a fabulous day in Alentejo.
What a wonderful and amazing day we had with Paulo! it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. It’s easy to see that he loves what he does. He is a wealth of knowledge of Portugal, the culture, agriculture, heritage, history and geology. He took us to all the places he thought were important for us to see, and ended up spending extra time for the tour to make sure we did not miss anything. Paulo is a great guide. We explored villages and castles and learned about the marble triangle. He is a wealth of information and a good driver. Very enjoyable day.
●Departure to the castle of Évoramonte, enjoy amazing views to the Alentejo landscape. On the way stop at a cork factory with visit. Departure to the walled town of Estremoz, the largest marble town in the province of Alentejo in Portugal. It is known as the world's second largest explorer of marble. Afterwards drive to Vila Viçosa, a town located in one of the most fertile regions in Portugal's southern region, home to some important and memorable events and structures that shaped the country's fascinating history and cultural heritage. What's probably the most remarkable part of Vila Vicosa are its streets that are made of marble; even the benches, pavements, window frames, and doorways are made of marble. Our last visit will be to the medieval village of Monsaraz. Cobbled streets and smartly whitewashed stone cottages with bursts of bougainvillea cascading over the walls. . not to mention views into infinity over the Alentejo plains and the Alqueva reservoir. Stop at a special Menhir(Megalithic site).
