Évora & Monsaraz - The Alentejo Heart

Alentejo remains one of a favorite places to visit in Portugal. Évora is one of the main cities in the Alentejo and its traditional atmosphere is one of the main reasons why we visit the city and spend some time exploring all that Évora has to offer. Considered by many to be one of the most timeless cities in Portugal, The UNESCO World Heritage city of Evora is rich with history, culture, architecture, and more. The city dates back more than 5, 000 years. It was originally known as 'Ebora' by the Lusitanians and was their regional capital was conquered by the Romans in 57 BC and began the growth that led to the popular city walls that help lend Evora it's unique ambiance with its medieval walls, historic monuments and religious sites. Followed by Monsaraz Castle, Lake and eye-view points, our tour will be cheers with the best local tasty food and wine.

From Lisbon we head straight to Évora through the countryside roads of Alentejo, a beautiful sightseeing road journey. Once we arrive in Évora, the must see place is St Francis Church and the famous Chapel of the Bones, a must to see enigmatic place. We will then head to the temple of Diana, a roman temple from the 1st Century and its impressive state of conservation, located at the top of the historical city. A wine tasting session is on the menu followed by a lunch with the best cuisine of Alentejo. Then we'll head towards the medieval Monsaraz city and to the biggest manmade lake in Europe. Here we will have some time to walk around and enjoy the magnificent view from the Castle. Walking through the streets of Monsaraz is like going back in time, with truly unique place where one can find all the peace and tranquillity that have been forgotten by the modern era. At the end of the day we start our journey back to Lisbon with our memory filled of memories of nature, tasting and colours.
