Évora got its first outlines in the Roman period, in the 1st century, but the first vestiges of human presence in its territory go back to the prehistoric era, between the 6th and the 7th centuries B.C. Let's visit and learn all about its most outstanding megaliths in the middle of nature, such as the "Escoural Cave" ((25,000 - 15,000 BC), the "Almendres" cromlech, the biggest in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the oldest in the world (2000 years older than the Britain Stonehenge), the "Almendres Menhir" and the "Zambujeiro" big tapir/dolmen (beginning of 4th and middle of 3rd millennium BC), probably the world's tallest dolmen! Jorge was an amazing ambassador for his home - so knowledgeable and interesting! The sights were awe-inspiring! And Jorge was able to share everything from solid facts to interesting theories about every location. He was also super knowledgeable about all manner of other local heritage, economics and cork production. It was a fun and educational outing we’ll never forget!
Jorge is one of the few really local guides giving tours of the prehistoric sites near Evora. He is very knowledgeable and provided in-depth information, including about the cork tree farming that we saw along the way. Note that the road to the stone circle is very rutted and slow to drive, so you will need patience for this trip, but it is a very remarkable site, much older than Stonehenge.
We slightly customized one of Jorge's tours and the four of us had a grand time. The vehicle was clean, modern, comfortable, and well maintained. We also had a very safe and informative driver. Jorge is not a lightweight when it comes to explaining local history. He's a nice guy with a wealth of interesting information. This tour was worth every penny.

We had a wonderful afternoon visiting the Almendres Cromlech and the Zambujeiro dolmen with Jorge. He provided excellent information on site, was punctual, unhurried, and accommodated our desire to stop and watch birdlife in the area from time to time. The vehicle was as described, providing plenty of space for our belongings, and was spic and span.
