Takaoka in Toyama is a historic town where traditional craftsmanship and Zen culture quietly shape everyday life. Less visited than major tourist destinations, it offers an authentic and unhurried glimpse into Japan’s cultural heritage. On this tour, we’ll explore some of my favorite sites such as Zuiryu-ji Temple, a striking Zen temple known for its symmetry and serene atmosphere, as well as the beloved Takaoka Great Buddha. We’ll also stroll through the beautifully preserved merchant district of Yamachosuji, where traditional storehouses reflect the town’s prosperous past. Let's explore this beautiful city together. Please note that transportation by private vehicle is not included in the base price. I will be happy to arrange a private van based on the number of guests.

Though smaller than others, it is admired for its refined craftsmanship and gentle expression. • Lunch – Enjoy a relaxing meal at a local restaurant, featuring fresh seafood or seasonal Japanese dishes. • Yamachosuji Historic District – Stroll through this beautifully preserved merchant district lined with traditional storehouses. • Sugano Residence (optional) – If open, step inside one of the historic merchant houses to gain insight into daily life and business during Takaoka’s flourishing era.
