Overview of your Toyama tour
We’ll begin our journey in Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage village known for its traditional Gassho-zukuri farmhouses with steep thatched roofs built to withstand the heavy snow. Surrounded by forested mountains and rice fields, this peaceful village feels untouched by time and offers a rare glimpse into Japan’s rural heritage. Next, we’ll make our way to the historic city of Takaoka, renowned for its centuries-old metalworking traditions and elegant streetscapes dating back to the samurai era. Here, we will great the impressive Great Buddha of Takaoka, often called Japan’s most handsome Buddha. It stands as a proud symbol of the city’s craftsmanship. Zuiryū-ji Temple is a temple complex including several Important Cultural Properties and considered a National Treasure of Japan. This is a unique opportunity to slow down, step off the beaten path, and connect with the rich culture and quiet beauty of Japan’s countryside.

After Meeting at the cruise terminal with the driver, we'll departure by private car - Drive to Shirakawa-Go village (about 1h.10) - Visit the historical village and walk to the panoramic view point. - Visit one of the preserved houses from the inside - Local specialties for Lunch - Drive to Takaoka (50 min.) - visit Zuiryū-ji Temple - Admire the handsome Buddha - Stroll through historical streets of Takaoka - Return to the cruise terminal (20 min) If you have any special interests, whether it's a sake tasting, a hands-on washi paper or tin casting workshop, or a visit to a local tin product factory, I'd be happy to include that in your itinerary.
