Course for leading religious itineraries in Ferrara and its province during the Jubilee of the year 2000. I am not a driver. The area of the former Ghetto, institued in the 17th Century, is constituted by nowadays Mazzini street, Vittoria street and Vignatagliata street, where, in the courtyards, on the balconies, in the narrow streets you can breathe the intense life of the Ghetto. We will also reach MEIS museum where the history of the Italian Jewish presence is described with video displays and objects from the Synagogue of Ferrara. P. S. Nowadays Meis Museum hosts a temporary exhibition. The guide will lead you to the entrance of the Museum, explaining generally the building and the museum then the group can visit by himself the exhibition inside the Museum, you can buy the tickets directly there.
-10, 00 am (indicative) we start from the symbol of the town, the Estense Castle and then will walk along the streets of the former Ghetto, after having admired the façade of the Cathedral, example of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. -Walking through Via Mazzini and then Via Vignatagliata, the two main streets of the Ghetto, we will reach the centre of the medieval town i. e. Via delle Volte then we will walk back to the Ghetto to reach the Synagogue. -The front of the building is distinguished from the others by the memorial stones at the entrance, inside the building hosts the former German Synagogue, used for the most solemn ceremonies, the Italian Synagogue, and the Fanese Oratory. -In the historic building there was also the Jewish Museum: liturgical objects, 18th Century furnishing, printed documents with works of the celebrated Isacco Lampronti, a doctor and theologian who lived at the end of the 17th century. -All these objects are now inside Meis museum.
